shaking during idle

shaking during idle

Postby solara90 » Fri Aug 28, 2009 8:18 pm

when im sitting at a light it feels like my motor is shaking a lot, my idle is steady around 800- 750ish. IT only does it while the brake is applied if im in park or take my foot off the brake quick there is no more shaking.

What are some possibilities. Motor mounts? or maybe a vaccuum leak in my brake booster (which it shouldn't be its only 5 months old) plus i dont hear any hissing like when my last one took a dump.

Mine did that last night too. Only this was the first time Ive ever heard it... It kinda scared me only because my Solara has NEVER had issues. Idk. Maybe it was because I was hard on it like 5 minutes before that. I was angry. Are you over 100k?

My 01 SLE V6 convertible did the same. After a throttle body cleaning at the dealer, it went away.

Now about 1 year later, it is coming back. I suspect it is the ignition system. So far I have changed the spark plugs and plug wires. Next may be ignition coil at $70 each for 3.

Does the idle speed drop while it's shaking?

Let me rephrase that.

Does the idle speed drop when it's shaking while in gear?

Yes, the idle drops a little.

When I did the throttle body cleaning at dealer, they told me the idle was too low and they adjusted it.

Sounds like a problem my mom has with her Ford Windstar. When she's in park and idle it's normal, when she's driving and comes to a complete stop the engine would bog a little and start to hunt for a quick sec then go back to normal idle speed.

It had to do with her fuel pump, or rather the sock-like filter in the pump is clogged. Either way the whole pump needed to be replaced.

It could be a combination of things, but I don't think it has anything to do with spark or air right now.

it has gotten better since i cleaned the throttle body, but it still does it sometimes.

Sometimes (when my car is warm) it will idle high about 900. other times it will be 800 and then settle down to 650 after a while. And other times it will go down to 600 and feel rough then go back to normal

my 99 v6 does the same... usually this happens when im rought on it. but when i drive like normal people, the idle is perfect. but after i beat it up a bit, the idle will act weird.

i think its the throttle thingy that needs cleaning. or spark plugs that i should have changed a while back
