Weird Solara 00 issue

Postby thatdamngoodcire777 » Wed Sep 16, 2009 12:21 pm

Hey everyone. My car still runs good but im having an issue I cant figure out. My check engine light goes on sometimes and then shuts off. The engine also sounds a little louder then usual. The engine also idles high and takes a while to go back down. And you can hear the engine struggling when the air is turn on and off in the car. I replaced the air filter, seafoamed the gas tank and engine and filled up all of the fluids. I had a tune up about 20K-30K miles ago and the transmission fluid changed at about the same time. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Have you tried going to an Autozone to check the code?

X2 on IAC. Since you said the car seems to struggle when the AC is on, that leads me to suspect that the IAC valve is stuck, and or clogged, and the engine is unable to idle up to compensate for the extra load caused by the AC compressor. I don't think that would throw a CEL though, but it might. Also a stuck IAC valve would explain why the idle runs high and takes a while to settle down. I'm not sure what might be causing the car to be louder, I figure it's unrelated.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

Since I know you're in SoCal, you DO know that we "allegedly" signed a stupid law into place that prevents you from being loaned a scan tool, right? I never heard of the law but it pissed me the fxck off when I got a CEL problem.

I checked the exhaust and I'm not sure about an EGR leak. I have had problems with the AC for a long time now. It makes a big pop when I switch where the air is vented in my car. The AC could be clogged. I'll need to check into both issues. But, first stop, Autozone! (luckily, I live in RI, not Cali, so it shouldn't be a problem)
