Polished Lip on painted stock wheels

Polished Lip on painted stock wheels

Postby Ilovemylara » Mon Sep 14, 2009 6:56 pm

Here's one I bet no one else has done before: Polished lip on painted stock 16" alloy wheels. I got some pretty bad curb scratches today, so I decided to try my hand at polishing the lip on my wheels. I have only done one so far, and I like it, but before I embark any further on this time consuming journey, I wanted to see what you guys thought Like it? Hate it? tell me please.
p.s. I know I need to lower my car, springs are waiting to go on.

Heres the wheel all black:

Good idea, but I think the paint is undecided between being high-gloss and matte-black. I think it should be glossy. I also think the polished face thing might be cool, but you might ruin the blackout theme you have. PROPS on being a DIY guy.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

^ I used Krylon polyurethane based paint. Really tough. I had to use 320 grit sandpaper to cut through it on the lip. My fingernails are like... seperated from my skin now from all that sanding.. ouch!... Yeah, I'm getting some 18's eventually, I just wanna make these look a little better for now.

Finished the front wheel this morning. Working on the other two wheels right now. Here's some better pics. Sorry my car is dirty, its been raining and I havent had a chance to wash it.
