Water in spare wheel area... HELP!

Water in spare wheel area... HELP!

Postby SolaraMan7890 » Sun Sep 13, 2009 11:46 am

Ok guys so here's what happened. I open my trunk, and notice that the carpet area is moist. I lift it up and there was a ton of water around my spare tire. it wont drain, so i had to use paper towel... there was quite a lot, i would say.... half a gallon?

I looked under the car and there are two rubber stopper that are plugged into the spare compartment... Does anyone know if taking one of them out so that water could simply drain, would be a good idea? or would it just make more water come through? let me know asap plz...

I don't know about the rubber stopper...but the cause of the water can be the rubber hose from the antenna.
I had the same problem, only the water was collected on the right side of the trunk.

I doubt its anything around the trunk... because the things in my trunk werent that wet for all that water to get in... in other words, for all that water to have to come through the trunk and into the spare area, everything would have been soaked...

ill check, but it seems fine...

Weird, was nothing above the spare wet, or did you have the carpet out? I would recommend leaving the plugs in place when you drive around. Also like they said check the weather stripping and taillight seals.

Come to think of it, we do have drain tubes for the sunroof that go through the trunk, check those too. And, it seems highly unlikely, but there is a vent to the outside on the driver's side that you should check. It is right under the fiber panel in the corner of the trunk.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

ya know what guys that is a big problem with challengers and cudas and now after all these years i have already replaced the trunk floor in my challenger and now i have to do it in the cuda they get completly rotted out ,
if you dont do something or if you plan to keep the car perhaps some silicone in those spoiler holes will help but i would fix that now and i am going to check my trunk floor now glad i saw this thread

I dont have a sunroof, but I DO have a spoiler... it wouldnt really make sense for THAT much water to get through the little holes that the spoiler has because it would just dry up in the trunk without leaking through the cardboard bottom. It could be my tail lights, because i think there was some work done to that area... i'll check that out. thanks guys.

Any idea what to seal them with, if that IS the case?

I need to take them off once a year to pass inspection... lol so i cant glue them or anything... perhaps some materials i can stuff the holes with...

I was going to say silicone but since you have to remove them once a year, that is probably not the way to go.

I have the same problem, water in the trunk aera, where the car jack is hide. I drill 2 very very little holes there to get rid of this problem. The problem seems to be the rubber around the trunk. It was an easy ghetto fix, cost nothing and I get rid of this water.

But you dont think that even more water will get in through the drilled holes? like when it's raining? I guess even if it does get in it will just leak out... i'll probably do that too.
