Preventative Maintenance

So i'm taking my car up to college for my freshman year, and its going to be sitting for long periods at a time. Is there anything I should do to prevent the negative affects that occur when a car sits for a long time? It breaks my heart to leave my solara sit but it would be worse if something happened to it.

do a good exterior cleaning, a must is wax for protection. Get one of those front window covers that sets up from the inside to block the sun. Make sure you have enough antifreeze since im assuming it will be sitting in the winter time. Start it up every once in a while to make sure your battery doesnt die. Also give it a good drive for the sole purpose of enjoyment. I would say drive 2 hours to reach this destination Maryland Meet

You might consider getting a car cover.

get a car cover, if you dont get a car cover, then make sure to get a solar battery trickle charger, and you only need to start it once a month, and give it a little exercise around the block to avoid problems.. also make sure everything is clean on the inside so stains dont set in and stuff.

and you might want to put a little fuel stabalizer in a tank of 93oct to help keep it fresh. check tire pressure and be sure they don't sit extramly long on the same side. (Back in my millitary days we had to store our cars ong term and do all kinds of crazy stuff like take out the battery and have no more than 1/4 tank of gas in it.) if you do what these guys said i'm sure you car will be fine.

....you can get a two pack of those trickle chargers at costco for $20.

I would definitely get a car cover. I would recommend that you drive your car about 15 minutes every 10 days to 2 weeks so that your oil and other fluids get mixed really good. One of the really bad things to do is start the car and let run for a minute or two and then shut it down. This doesn't allow fluids to warm up and really circulate. This of course is just my opinion.
Without ammunition, the USAF would be just another very expensive flying club.
