Shopping for wheels

Shopping for wheels

Postby djandrey_M » Thu Aug 13, 2009 11:45 pm

Dear forum members! Please excuse my noobness....but I got a question...

Ok, so I've been looking on Craigslist for some wheels and tires for my Gen1. My concern is, what if those wheels are really messed up in some way that I won't be able to see (like maybe bent or like impossible to balance). Is that a legitimate fear that I have? Or is the only thing to worry about is excessive curbing?

I've also been researching around at what prices are appropriate to pay for a set of decent 18 inch rims with good tires on them and the price I seemed to come up with was right around $1000. Is this amount of money reasonable to spend on some used rims w/ tires?

Well, maybe not $1000, cos I'm really hoping to find a good deal for maybe like $500....

I guess for $1000 that would have to be something really good.

If your that worried about getting ripped off on rims. Either buy'em new from a trustworthy company or make sure you can go see them in person before you throw down some cash. I feel the same way about rims I see on Ebay/Craigslist. What if they arent showing you the part thats messed up??? :-?

New is always better if you are shopping blindly.
Then you always can get your money back if you
try. Wheels and tires are too expensive to buy without
knowing exactly what you are getting. Shop around and
see what different places offer. Don't settle for less when
you can have the very best. Jimmm

I'll never buy used wheels unless I know the person. Plus when they're new they're SOO much cleaner.

The reason I am looking at used is I think their value won't drop to half of what it was new once I drive on them and they become used. That way I could sell them someday and not lose as much money....

Just buy the rims then and buy your own tires. I agree with lee though. Check out the rims with your own eyes before throwin down the dough (meaning local seller). Also, do some research and make sure the rim size fits your vehicle so you don't show up unprepared.

.. But I just bought new tires 2 weeks ago and it came out to $840. :(

For a grand, you could get a brand new set of rims wrapped up in nice tires that look great, like konig, motegi, enkei, depending on what you're looking for. On craigslist, just deal as locally as you can so you don't have to deal with shipping and disappointment. Go out and check em out yourself to make sure theyre perfect for you! And on craigslist, you can find some nice 18s for around $400-700 with tires!

If you're looking for new rims/tires, hit up tirerack or andysautosport, you can actually see what they look like on your car! and at andysautosport you can see what they look like with different tint and ride heights so you can get close to your real car however it is.

I would LOVE to find some 18's with good tires on them for $400 ha ha. So many people are asking such ridiculous amounts of money for such scratched up stuff, I cant even believe it.
