Taillight Swap

Taillight Swap

Postby 2AZFE FTW » Tue Jul 28, 2009 12:21 pm

I recently bought a 2001 Solara despite the gaudy femine taillights. Would the taillights from a 1st generation Solara fit my car?

Edit: It's a 2002. I dont know what I was thinking. Is it possible to swap the tails?

Unless the guy before you decided to swap the lights. Then yes, you can swap them back.

Since your car is a 2001, it should already have gen 1 tail lights. The "feminine" ones were only on the gen 1.5s (2002-2003). I found a way to make the gen1.5 tails look WAY better, as you can see: Image Just tape off around the chrome ring, and paint or tint the outer red area black.

Thanks man :) I just taped off the "circles" using blue masking tape, an I painted the outer red reflector areas gloss black. I used poly-urethane spray paint, its Much more durable than enamel.

My apologies, I said it was a 2001. Its a 2002. Do you know whether or not it is possible or were you only saying that based on the thought that someone other than me had done it in the past?

gen 1 taillights > gen 1.5 taillights

gen 1 smoked tail lights >?< gen 1.5 smoked tail lights
(those look pretty good on a black lara, ilovemylara...krawzy, i haven't seen yours, so i don't know how the color combo works)

honestly, i'm just not a fan of the altezza tail light look....it still seems kinda ricer to me (even though it's OEM on the 1.5's).

but yes, it's interchangable...the only things that aren't interchangable between the gen 1 and 1.5 are the front end's (head lights, grill, fogs, etc).
unless you change out the entire front end bumper.

Yeah I really like what ilovemylara has done to his, but that would not work quite so well with my red paint.
