Stupid how they didnt just add the HID's automatically on these since the gen 2's come with projection head lights already.

It's a totaly different projector in the new solara's that come factory with HIDs. The output is a lot better and less fuzzy than the drop in bulbs on a gen2. I've been toying with the idea of doing a retrofit into my gen2 lamps or just buying a set of gen2.5.

I think the projector in gen 2.5 looks a little better. Just my opinion.

Specifically, they arrived on the 2007 SE Sports as standard, as part as option package on SLEs and not even offered for SEs--this continued until it's demise the following year.

Here's a 2007-2008 (Gen 2.5) Projector headlight (HID's were similar)

Depending where or how you buy them headlights for the Gen2 can run from ~$200-$300 apiece; Gen2.5s can run from ~$250 and up to way over $300. Tail-light prices for both Gen's have gone volatile, it appears to have risen in price from ~$110 to no ceiling price since the last time I checked. Got all this information when my car was in the shop this past January and debated about swapping housings.

07 Solara Xenon

Postby AliH » Tue Aug 04, 2009 12:46 pm

Hi. My car is the SLE with the Xenon. I have about 60k miles on my car and i noticed my left headlight went out yesterday. I switched them off and then back on and the light worked. There is no discoloration which typically happens when xenons want to burn out. Also, my headlights make a strange high-pitch noise when i fire them up. You can only hear if the car is off. After driving a while, the noise dies off. Does anyone else have this noise on their car? I've noticed this noise for months now.
