Little oil in my oil filter...Should I be concerned?

Well check your filter now, turn it on, run it for a min, hit the gas a tad, turn off and check the filter.

It may have just been a bad filter...

I haven't had a chance to drive my car at all this week. Probably will this weekend.

I always drain my oil in the morning after the car has set all night to get as much oil into the pan. I also put lots of paper towels around and under the filter to trap as much oil as possible. The filter (I only use Toyota filters) always has oil in it and for me, always leaks when I spin the filter off. As all of you who change your own oil know there is oil on the engine and papers under the car because of the filter. A spoon full of oil on the engine block or floor can look like the Exxon Valdez was here. After cleaning up as much as possible around and under the filter and putting on the new filter, I use brake cleaner to rid the engine and lower metal work of remaining spilled oil. I have used brake cleaner for year now and found out that my local Toyota dealer does the same thing. Thought I was so smart.

I have never had a dry filter when changing my oil and that should be a good thing.

When i bought my car the guy left an unused fram oil filter in the car. I never used it but changed my oil a week or two ago and decided to. I put it on and after driving around and smelling a familiar smell (oil on the block) i decided to check things out. It appeared that oil was leaking from the filter (the seal maybe?). Last night I changed just the filter. I had driven maybe 2 hours before I did this so the car had cooled down. I took off the filter, not one drop of oil spilt. I did notice that the oil filter was a ton heavier but even in an attempt to get some oil to spill out (shaking it in the grass), nothing came out. I found it wierd but I replaced it with a k&n filter and no leaks so it doesnt really bother me.

Never did get around to checking it after 500miles. But I did an oil change today and the new filter I put on had plenty of oil in it. I guess I must have just had a bad anti-drain valve in the previous K&N oil filter.
