Hello, I just purchased a 2000 Toyota Solara SLE and whenever I go over the smallest of bumps , a weird sound comes from the rear right area. The closest sound I can compare this to is a box of tools falling down the stiars. Outside of the sound theres no problems from the suspension so I have no idea if it is a shock , spring or some random panel thats loose. Any opinions on this problem would help. Thanks

it COULD be the tools that came loose by the spare. I was facing some clankin noises on the rear right the other day too and that's what my problem was. if not, then you might want to check the suspension.

welcome to SG.

ME 2!!!! I dont know how to fix it. I think the problem is caused from the seat sliding forward really fast and slamming into the metal track stops when you lean it forward for people to get in/out of the back seats. I guess that it wears out the rollers or something.

I took the jack out and drove around the block and it was still making that sound , so i believe its the loose sway bar link or broken stut mount. Not to be a bother but I'm a novice when it comes to physical mechanics when purchasing a replacement strut mount / sway bar link should I just buy a replacement sway bar at the same time or should my rear sway bar be fine. Just wondering because this sound has been going on for the past 100 miles or so , so i dont imagine that m sway bar if it is the problem is in good shape. Thanks again.

yeah, it's definitely when you have to lean it forward for passengers...it's when you put it back and the seat stays in that upright position.

the only thing i've found to "remedy" it, is to lean the seat back a bit, and pull the seat forward a notch from that upward position. that does the trick.
