Idling speed

Idling speed

Postby makethemusic72 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 1:25 pm

Hey guys, what is a healthy idling speed for a 2003 4 cylinder automatic solara?

its idling in drive at about 5-600 and the same when it's parked.

I did a battery disconnect about 2 weeks ago, After i did that, my idling speed was F@#$%^&. I talked to some guys and they were like "your ECU is reset, and if you give it some time, It will re-learn your car"

I cleaned the throttle body twice in two days, about two days ago. the first time i cleaned it, It solved the idling problem. it was idling parked at 1100, and in drive at 900. When i cleaned it again the next day, The idles were again messed up, now it's idling like it used to. What in the world did I do?

Thanks all!

Tyler

sorry, it's been awhile.

coud it be my MAF sensor? if i cleaned that would it make a difference?

or should i take it to a Toyota tech and get them to reset my ECU?

it sounds like your ecu reset when the cleaner was still in your engine try to do the reset again disconnect the positive terminal for about five minutes and turn your lights on to drain any stored power.reconnect it start the car let it idle for a 3or4 minutes on its own then do a few quick punches that rev up to 5500 id say about 10 times that should give your ecu the readings it needs to set everything. let me know how this goes if this doesnt solve your problem you may need to do a more detailed cleaning

the car will take about a halfr hour of driving to fully reset
when it is idling does it feel like it it struggling to stay running or does it feel consistent?

We have the same problem, when the engine warms up and are sitting at a light in drive the engine idles down and the whole car shakes a bit. It actually stalled at the light a couple times. I cleaned the intake, put new plugs/wires and filter too. I reset the ECU a couple times since but no change. I'm thinking a sensor. Any help would be great, Tim
