DTC P1705 Direct Clutch Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
That's the code, and a performance trans shop wants to replace my new(er) trans. They say the reverse clutch pack is fried.

It ran just fine in the fall just before I parked it for the winter.
I did some minor interior stuff over the winter.
Now when I started it up for a spring run....It wouldn't shift into reverse. When cruising on the freeway It won't lock up the overdrive.

I replaced the Direct Clutch Speed sensor with one from a spare trans.
No change.

Ideas?
I'm going to call the shop that Greg had build the trans and I am also calling IPT for hopefully some input.
I think it's a wiring issue.
One day the Viper alarm locks the doors and the next day it doesn't.

Looks good and where it needs to be.

I hate the way you have to check it though. Every time you pull the dip stick out it leaves residue in the tube which later ends up back on the dip stick when rechecking. I think this is probably only one of my personal issues.

My friend from work just got this code this week on his 99 Camry. He claims he can start his car fine but has to give the car gas to keep it running otherwise it will quit on him. Im having trouble finding the part online and a good picture of where it is located to see if its an easy part to swap out. Can any of you help?

Edit: Auto Zone has Transmission Speed Sensor listed. Do you think this is the same part just they are calling is something different?

It's the Direct clutch lockup sensor. You basically have two plugs on the top of the trans. DCLS is the one closer to the front of the vehicle the speed sensor is the on further back.
If you Google(search) P1705 that will help some.
It could be other things, I'm checking my wiring. A low voltage to the TPS could also give you this code. It kinda sounds like your situation because it has to do with the idle.
