Oh before you put the tranny back in, can you take a picture of it where the shafts goes in. I just want to see if you can see through the shaft holes or if there is a "bar" in the middle.

^^^im not sure what you mean but i will take pics of the fidanza fly and exedy clutch bolted onto the motor. is that what you want?

oh haha, no not those. Just want to confirm when you look into the the holes in the gearbox where the shafts goes in. Can you see through to the other side unobstructed?

i think in mine which DOES have the trd lsd in it, there was a bar. don't quote me on that tho.

i know in the miata the way to tell what diff you have was to see through it - bar in center = open diff, no bar = torsen. i made sure to pull the shafts from a junkyard car i found which i thought might have a torsen... and it did. and i got it for $200 WITH axles! junkyards FTW!

btw craig - good luck tomorrow. yes you can use regular axle grease on the shaft where the Throwout/release bearing goes. be sure to put a glob of it on the middle of the clutch fork, and on the arms where it holds teh TOB, and also on the dimple where the clutch slave cyl hits it. this will keep things quiet.

not sure what you mean about the threads on the clutch disk... i can't picture it. i have to work 9-2 tomorrow too... plus new baby duties... life got much more interesting for me on monday when my daughter was born!

Thanks mate. Just one more favor when you're installing the box, can you let me know where the stamped id code is?

I'm in the middle of a swap too but all the shafts arent fitting as planned and want to double check to see if the junkyard has sent me the right box

Or if someone has decided to put a LSD into it. (Both my mechanic and a driveshaft specialist who had a look at it said there is a LSD in it) But there is no bar in the middle.

lsd or not, it takes the same axles. the automatic axles are longer at the transmission end than the m/t ones as pictured in here and other threads, though i think they're identical at the wheel end. i found that out when i had to replace my right side axle, and the guy at oreilleys (parts store) assumed that a/t and m/t took the same axles even though they had different p/n's. *shrug*

btw nice car in your sig. are those lexus GS 18" wheels?

well it was definately a rough weekend. started sat. afternoon and didnt get the tranny on till sun night. i fu*ked up big time by not making sure the disk was aligned in the center and could not get the tranny casing to line up to the engine...oh noeeezzz

thank goodness I talked to jason (gibson99) and he got me on the right track

so i had to take it all off and loosen up the pressure plate to adjust the disk and the second time it slid right on like a dream!!

now the bad news....when i was putting on the tranny mount, the torque wrench never clicked and i put it on tooo tite and snapped off the bolt in the tranny. anyone have any ideas on a good bolt puller??? :roll:

ill post pics sometime this week but im absolutely exhausted. this shiitz rough yall

one word... EZ-OUT. time consuming, but it sure beats trying to drill out the entire bolt and then re-thread the hole!

be prepared for broken drill bits. use LOTS of wd-40 or similar to help prevent broken/dulled drill bits. hose that thing down before you even start to get it down into the threads so that hopefully it will come out easy once you loosen it.

im not sure about ez out, but i went to advanced auto parts and just got some broken bolt bits, you drill into the bolt and then twist these into the broken bolt.

jason any idea why my torque wrench worked fine up until that point? it clicked on the first two bolts at 47 lbs and then the 3rd one never clicked and like an idiot i kept turning until it snapped...waiting for that damn click! :arg:

also i noticed that after bolting the tranny to the engine, i cannot crank the engine and turn it by the pulley...is this normal?? :think:

fyi this is the first clutch and flywheel ive ever installed. i got all my info from research and gibson99

too tired to type...just pictures. theme of this group is UNITY

btw i have to say, it is amazing how well $20 home depot chains work in installing a tranny. just something i wish i would have known prior to doing the install...

this is where i had to stop b/c i snapped a bolt on that tranny mount, o well i was freaking exhausted ne ways...enjoy

Seeing those pictures reminds me of my swap...Oh I'm glad that's over!

Now that you've got the car on jacks and everything is more accessible, it would be a great time to install the OBX headers and y-pipe. Let that supercharger breathe a little easier! :lol:
