airbag light - any ideas?

airbag light - any ideas?

so, the airbag light on my 99 lara (i4) has been on for about a year now. doesn't really bother me, but i'm coming up on an emissions check & i suspect they might not inspect the car with the light on (they won't test cars with CELs or other indicator lights on).

i suspect the reason for the light is explained by the warning on the visor: "the airbag requires maintenance 10 years from the manufacture date on the certification label and every 2 years thereafter."

does anybody have any insight on how to eliminate the warning light? i'm not averse to losing airbag functionality for a fix (in some respects that would be a plus, since airbag deployment = totaled if a crash occurs), but i'm also aware that tampering with certain airbag-related electronics could result in deployment.

consider my knowledge on a possible fix to this particular problem as "total n00b", so please be sure not to leave out important details like "disconnect battery cable before pulling relay".

Pull the bulb out of the dash. Enjoy the head trauma then you get into an accident.

well, i wear my seat belt, which provides the greatest protection against serious injury/fatality in a collision, so i'm not too worried about it.
