DRLs & HIDs - Ideas?

DRLs & HIDs - Ideas?

Postby BLACK V6 » Sat Jun 06, 2009 8:51 pm

I have been wanting to do HIDs for awhile now but there has been one thing holding me back. I would really like to keep my drls. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do that? I know some Mercedes have an extra little bulb within the housing that lights up for the drl, could I do something like that? Any help would be appreciated.

New headlights of course.... But you'll definitely need a new front bumper... that is whats gonna kill you. there are a few other minor things but i forgot them all. The bumper alone will cost ya a grip tho! Honestly, I'd hope that you would have a little more motivation to do the conversion other than JUST headlights... that is one thing, but i mean, imo it's not worth converting the entire front end for. Too much money.

EDIT* You'll need a new grille too...

if your doing a real retro you could probably use a relay and just house a small bulb in there. I mean your going to be hacking up the back of the housing anyway.

if your doing a hid kit then disregard :drinking:

I felt the same way before i did my HID conversion but honestly I dont miss the DRLs one bit i just turn on head lights during the day when visibility is low and I still have my sensor hooked up so if it gets to dark they come on automatic any way

I was just reading... ASG14 got it covered... only other thing that may need replaced are the spash guards under the engine that attach to the bumper.

Why do you want DRL?
Around my area the only people with DRL are old people driving around at 20 mph...

If you insist on DRL A while back I wanted to cut into the chrome "inner housing" of the headlamp and install a flexible thin LED ropelight along the bottom of it... so it would look like LED DRL like Audis...

But then I decided DRLs suck and unplugged the grey harness in the engine bay.

if you want drl so bad then dont do anything... your hids will just stay on all the time. which is a waist IMO.

i just unpluged the gray harness... lights turn on autmatically when needed.
