Headers install Questions

Hey everyone,

I'm getting ready to install some JPP headers and was wondering if anybody had the instructions on how to do it? i know there were some initial instructions going around when the headers first came out.

If you don't have instructions, but have done it or know how to do it, please fill me in. i know the motor needs to be tilted or lifted a bit to squeeze the rear header in. Any help on exactly the easiest way of doing this is?

i think most people ended up going to a mechanic/shop to get them installed.

I think most people go to a shop or do it when the engine is pulled as the rear headers are not easy to get to.

yea i was thinking bout going to a mechanic. I don't feel like paying $500 to get them installed. I was wondering how detailed it would be. Like if the axles need to be removed, etc.

You really don't need to go to a mechanic. It will get frustrating at times, but think about the $500 you will save.
No, the axles don't need to be removed. And the engine mounts only need to be loosened, but the engine will need to come up a bit for the rear to fit in. When you lift the engine....GO SLOW, you don't want to damage anything else. Jack and then look to see if anything is getting pulled, then jack some more, you really only need about an inch. Jim said he was actually able to do it without lifting the engine, but I don't see how. Remove the dogbone though.
Just spray down the nut and bolts the previous night with PB Blaster and that should help.
Make sure you have plenty of socket extensions and use only 6 point sockets, you don't want to strip any of those suckers.
Some of my header bolts needed to be installed with wrenches. I could not get the socket up there. I just went out and bought 12 new nuts from Toyota for the headers.
Once everything is off and you are installing the headers do not tighten everything up until you have the y-pipe also bolted up. Don't forget about the pipe for the egr, install it before you tighten everything down.
It's been a while since I installed them, but it's really not that tough.

I actually just got done installing my OBX headers this weekend in my garage. It is possible to do without removing any major parts or even lifting the engine. I took lots of pictures so I'll make a tutorial later on in the week. Most likely it will be in the weekend.

sounds good, thanks for the help. This is exactlly the info i was looking for.

i will be getting back with more questions once i find time to tackle this project. a tutorial would be nice for the obx headers. The pictures would be helpful. The problem is i have the jpp setup not the obx. but it should be the same if they are identical. from what i understand the engine does need to be lifted just a bit as previously mention. i was told this by Jose from JPP.

I had to loosen the engine mount that the axle runs through and jack the engine up some to get my rear JPP header out. It sucked, but I got it eventually. Like Joe said, for sure make sure you have a lot of extensions. I didn't run all of the nuts on the headers because I couldn't see how it was possible to get some of them in quite frankly, but I never had any leaks or issues. It can for sure be done yourself, good luck and props!

Damon, was it you that had issues with your jpp ypipe matching up? i remember someone from the group buy had issues with it and they had to cut and reweld something. if anybody knows please let me know. i hope i don't have the same problem.
