if your steering wheel isn't locked anymore, then try popping the clutch.

that would narrow the problem down to possbily the starter.

because it sounds like you're saying the car won't even turn over....it goes into that "use all the electricity for the starter" mode (no stereo, no a/c), but there is no starter sound.

if your steering wheel is still locked, then you shouldn't pop your clutch, as you will only be able to go back and forth, and not turn to either side.

Yes guys! The car does turn over! But it just wont start. This problem is really bugging me and its been 8 days now that the solara has been out of commission The battery is fine, and the sound that it makes turning over is 100% normal when I turn the key except the car doesnt turn on! Any more suggestions?

This is why i hate mechanics, they see that you're in a desperate situation and now they're tyring to rape you for every dollar you have.

But the dealership was the one to suggest the $1800 RAPlEacement.

Thanks for the "Thank You" letter you sent but I did not get my service done at Northtown; I just paid the $115.00 + tax to get my car diagnosed. The reason why I did not get my car serviced there because I was quoted $1,800 dollars because my key would not turn all the way in the ignition. I replaced my ignition for literally $79.99 + tax in a job that took an amateur like me literally 15 minutes to do with no help except from a toyota website. 18 hundred dollars is a ludicrous amount to charge for a job that took less than 100 bucks to do. In fact I would have paid northtown $700 to fix my problem since I don't know a lot about cars and my trust is easily won by a person using fancy words who speaks too fast; but your "professionals" had to insist that I needed a new computer so my ignition could "correspond" with it, and I needed all of my keys re flashed etc. etc.. FYI you don't need to replace your $1,000 (which actually costs 200 bucks) ECU to change the ignition on a 2002 Toyota Solara, so if you can let your mechanics in the garage know that. I don't know if the "professionals" you have working at your garage really are not "professionals" or they tried to scam me. Nothing personal to you sir but I will not ever, ever "Take my car back to the dealership" if its Northtown.

Im assuming since you replaced the ignition, your using a new key as well right? if so, your engine will NOT start becuase toyota incorporates a security system into our keys. There is a small chip inside the key that sends a signal containing a certain code to the ecu when the ignition is turned to the START position. If the code recieved matches the pre-programed code in the ecus flash memory it will allow the engine to start. If not then it will only turn over and not fire. The NEW key MUST be programed using the code from the original key. Before you pay to have this done try reprogamming your new key using these instructions:
While pushing in both the ACCELERATOR and BRAKE PEDAL:
Insert already-registered key in the cylinder
Depress and release the accelerator pedal 5 times
Depress and release the brake pedal 6 times, and remove the master key
Insert the key to be registered in key cylinder
Depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time (Security indicator blinks)
After 60 seconds, master key is registered (Security indicator is OFF)
Each step must be done with 10 seconds
If the above doesnt work, as long as you still have the original key, a dealership should be able to do this for fairly cheap. Good luck getting her on the road again and keep us updated! [/b]

Good instructions man, I got those and i goggled for another set of instructions which are very similar. But here is the thing, I don't know if my new keys even have a chip in them? They are very plain generic keys.. Plus the new ignition is in, and I CAN fit my old keys in the ignition but I don't even know if I can program the new keys lol because I dont think there are chips in it lol.

PS: My above post was an email I sent to the manager at the dealership after they patronized me by sending me a thank you note *I also got one when I bought my car with cookies and flowers* and after I sent that in I got a call today but I couldnt answer *I work at a dental lab...* but I called them back and the manager was busy but he will call me later today and I'm expecting an apology or me going nuts on them.

Wel they tried getting a hold of me two different times but I was at work so I couldn't pick up my phone. But if they do call me after 5 I would flip out on them. Anyways I don't know if the top directions worked or not because I'm sure I heard my security system click a few times but I c ant see the security light because of my new guages. Anyways I towed my car to a garage downtown where they will be giving me an alignment, fixing my crap and changing my brake pads.

EDIT: I just got a call from northtown!!!!! haha I'm still at work but they called me and they refunded me my 127.00$ and apologized. He seemed pretty nice *car salesman..* and he was like "I was expeting you to flip out on me after the email" haha but I liked his tone etc so I kept it cool.
