Last summer that happened to me. During a 45 min ride the a/c would work great for about 30 mins, then it would go from a green light on the ac button to a blinking yellow light. After I shut the ac off for a few mins I could turn it back on and have it green once again. I have no idea what was the problem. But it only occured on 100+ degree days.

That's weird. I would have never thought that the a/c light would blink.

Ok so the air conditioning section of the FSM has some info on this:

Code: Select all
The air conditioning ECU is equipped with a selfdiagnosis
function. If there is a malfunction in the
system, it stores the DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble
Codes) in its memory and the air conditioning
switch indicator blinks.

Code: Select all
Compressor Lock Sensor Circuit
This sensor sends 1 pulse per engine revolution to the ECM.
If the ratio between engine and compressor speed deviates 20 % or more in compression to normal
operation, the ECM turns the cooler compressor off and the indicator blinks at approximately 1 second
intervals.

there is a procedure to read the dtcs and see what test is failing in the FSM.

Could the deviation causing the error possibly be a slipping belt?

Could be a lot of things. The belt could be slipping, but those are usualy low friction setups so more likely, the clutch isn't fully engaging on the pully, or it could be a circuit board issue. Read the DTCs out of the system and see what they say.
