Remote Fobs Won't Open Trunk

Postby NeFaRiOuS_SLE » Mon May 11, 2009 9:45 pm

fzzyrn > Not any Toyota I've seen, and especially not in any Solara... My first car (91 Buick Century) had that though, and the latest I've seen in a Japanese car was a Gen2 Altima (but not any of the newer ones), and out of all the new cars I've seen....

As far as new cars, only a small handful of German cars still have it, but not any other domestic or import car lately; I know for a fact the VW New Beetle has it since my neighbor left it open, and BMW goes a step further with one of its cars (forgot which one); press the top half of the logo to have it swivel inwards, and the bottom half reveals a keyhole if the doors are locked, BUT, if it's unlocked, it'll actually pop the trunk (without keys).

Re: Keyholes

I don't particularly like them in the tail light and sometimes they seem to put them in the wrong place. Some American cars used to cover them with a logo badge right in the center of the trunk lid that you had to flip either way to access the keyhole, but a lot of drivers forget and leave it uncovered, sort of like when they leave the gas filler door open and drive down the highway. Did you know that some cars used to hide the gas filler behind the license plate? I really liked that. Then you didn't have to negotiate which side of the car you needed to fill up at the gas pumps. Dude, jimmm, you're dating yourself again.

No, but seriously, how many of you guys are old enough to remember pumping leaded fuel behind the swing down license plate? How many remember wire "curb feelers" on the front wheel wells? How many remember putting the 8-track tapes underneath the seat because you couldn't fit more than 2 in the glove compartment? Ahhh, memories!!

Leaded? You mean "high test" don't you, Bob? How about "Ethyl"? Bias Ply tires? High beam foot button on the floor to the left of the brake pedal? Wiper button on the dash? Actually, almost everything on the dash because it was big enough to handle it. Manufacturer's logo on the glove box instead of "air bag" engraving? Glove boxes that were only big enough to hold gloves? Bare metal dashes instead of padded? Outside mirror on driver's side only? Real horns? AM radio only? No A/C? Headroom? Leg rooom? Bench seats in the front and rear that could seat 8 people all around? Man, those were the days. Jimmm

Oooo yummy, rear bench seats where you can lie down on top of your 5'11" date and both your feet and head never touch the doors. Ahhh, memories!!!

Do not fear the past, Grasshopper; it will never catch up with you.

My Dad had a truck once in which we could see the road beneath our feet, but that was post Fred Flinstone. I used to be able to push a car, jump in after it started rolling, and start it by pressing down hard on the clutch. That was only necessary, however, when the starter didn't work anymore. Don't ask me what car or which year 'cause I don't remember.

My first car was a 1962 Ford Fairlane 500, and the year was 1971. I wish I had it now. By the way, it was an automatic. It had a aftermarket A/C which hung under the dash and it always made the car run hot. Jimmm

Yep I remember it all, even if I wasn't old enough to tie my shoes back then LOL. Actually my first car was a 64 Beetle that was 6volts. I couldn't ven put a radio with buttons in it. The spare tire had a tube connected to it to presurize the washer fluid tank, sucked having to fill up the spare to keep the washers working. The headlights dimmed, even dimmer, when the car sat at a light and when you stepped on the gas they almost lit up the road. Back to gas tanks, I had to open the trunk because the fill tube was inside the car. Link tube suspension, 4 wheel drums, man I could (and probably have) go all day.

Regardless I loved the car, it was my first one and will always remember it.

By the way, the sensor for the trunk release is at the front of the car which is why pointing it at the trunk is less responsive than pointing it at the front of the car. Same with doors. All that computer stuff and sensors are under the hood, folks.

Thanks, MrMikeL. That is a very good thing to know. I sometimes have trouble with the sensorized toilets, wash basins, paper towel and hand dryer sensors in public restrooms. I think that they operate those from the front of the store also. Jimmm
