seat re-upholstering

seat re-upholstering

Postby mettler » Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:44 am

I have to re-upholster my driver's seat. my passenger's seat is in really good condition, but I am worried that my two seats won't match if I only do the driver's. I looked in the a few junk yards for some seats but couldn't find any. I am thinking of buying the seat covers from Toyota and getting the seats done locally. Anyone have any experience with this? Can I swap my passenger seat to the driver location while that seat gets re-upholstered?

I did a search on I think it was autoparts.com where a bunch of junkyards give you a bid for what you need. I did locate a power driver's seat, but I think the quote was somewhere around $1000!

Do you have someone who does interior repair where you live? They'd be able to redo your seat in a matter of a few hours and it doesn't cost much, depending what your seat needs. They can repair holes & stitching, dye it and repad the seat, whatever you may need.

I was going to have my seats redone but instead ordered some cool seat covers. I figured it was easier and cheaper for the moment, until I take some courses and do the work myself.

I have to have it re-upholstered. The problem is that when I get in my car after soccer or whatever where my left leg sit on the seat is all dried out and cracked/torn from sweat. I did my best to condition the leather and sat on a towel when I could remember, but it finally gave into the sweat. I might look into getting the leather from toyota and having it put on here. I have seen it done on car-shows on TV, and it doesn't look too terribly hard. But, I am sure I would rip it.

anyone know where I can get just the leather covers? I am not having much luck finding a single driver's seat. Mostly, I have found entire sets, but I just need the driver's seat.
thanks

Check out ebay, I've been loking to replace my back bench leather seat. My 110lb german sheppard is in the car everyday, throught the years, hes nails have destroyed the leather. I've checked out ebay, there are seats, but the shipping is too expensive.
