EGR sorrows (help)

EGR sorrows (help)

Ok, so as most of you know I have been having one hell of a time getting this EGR problem fixed on my Solara after the S/C was install. CEL in St. Louis = Failed Emissions.

I just replaced the EGR valve with a brand new one, and after 35 miles the damn thing came back on.

I am out the door to go get the EGR temp. Sensor, because I have read that the sensor could be part of the problem as well. I am no longer getting 2 codes, I am now just getting the insufficient EGR flow code. 1 code down and 1 to go.

I hope this sensor does the trick, but if not can anyone offer any suggestions to this problem. Will my next step be the EGR cooler, do those go bad? Any help would be

I used to get that same code=insufficienf flow. The EGR actually sometimes gets stuck closed/open so I took mine off and cleaned it in/out the best I could. Problem gone. At the same time I also changed and rerouted all the hoses with ones that wouldnt collapse etc. The shorter the better so vacuum isnt lost.

After that, I've never seen the code come back

I dont think cleaning it would be an issue, it's brand new and I hope that the solenoid would be ok, but the valve has a lifetime warrenty on it, so we will have to see. the hoses are all hard rubber braided hoses, so i know they are not collasping, but I will see if i can shorten them out, and see if there is a crimp somewhere. i'll keep you posted. all other comments and help welcome :)

whoever said, you need to change the egr, which is on the right of the picture, waste of money. you need to clean the egr( and the egr tube), rarely the egr's go bad if they do its because, their is a lack of vacumm and/or the egr got stuck, very easy to get the egr unstuck, for a 4cylinder the most common problem with the egr is the modulator on the left of the picture which is were the vacumm hose on the modulator is connected to the intake manifold, replace the modulater and the egr value swtich (sometimes the switch can go bad and can present as P0401 pending), and code should be gone other then that its probably the canister, which requires three or more codes of emissions to go bad, (sorry for any miss spelling), i'm not sure about v6, since i have a 4cyl

I had the same problem on a 2001 v6 and it was the egr position sensor on top of the egr valve. Sensor checked out in spec with ohm meter but was told by toyota mechanic the sensors were going bad even though they showed good. I belive the new egr position sensors were changed to a new part number to reflect the upgraded sensor that should last.

I would still change out the egr position senser on top of egr valve ( its held on with 3 little bolts) if you have not done so. It will throw the code for insufficient flow. I know you have the v6 cause you have the Super Charger. There was a problem with the original ones even though they showed in spec. It happened on my v6 with only 60,000 miles and I never cleaned the egr system. I replaced the sensor and check engine light was gone. Now have 101,000 miles and still no light and still have not cleaned egr system yet.

I would hate to think that the new EGR valve and sensor I bought would be faulty.

then their is no vacumm being created in the modulator....make sure their is vacumm being created were the two hose of the modulator are being connected.(which is the throttal body)
