I had to replace my headunit. My CD and cassette portions of the factory JBL died. So, I plugged a Kenwood KDC-HD942U in its place. With an adapter from Merta, I'm using the factory JBL amplifier and it sounds great. It'll take a little while to finish tweaking all of the settings, but so far it's great. The unit has CD, HD-radio, and a nice iPOD controller in it. The only loss was the diversity antenna setup. (My Solara has two antennas, one in the windshield and one in the rear window.)

The only problem I found was the merta harness did not include a illuminate connection. I found that information on the web and was able to hook it up nicely.

Nice job man....though I would've personally done away with the whole JBL thing, and done something different. I think the stock JBL sucks.....at least for the convertibles they do.

My JBL is as better as BOSS, maybe Solara Conv audio sys is bad. My friend has the Kenwoods Au Sys for his Celica, it sucks.

If you like how loud it gets then stick with it until the amped Kenwood burns out your weak JBL amp.

Once that's done, toss the stock shiat, run some real wires(I/O if you're smart, then you'll never have to run again for the life of the car), get on Craigslist and buy a couple nice used amps at a big discount, and start really blasting your hood.

A bucket with a beat looks like a Rolls Royce!
