Is that a case for glasses beneath the AC?

Postby PlayaDelReyDave » Mon May 04, 2009 3:57 pm

Beneath the AC controls in my '02 Solara, there's a small, thin, rectangular square with a button on it. When you press it, it pops open, revealing a small, short area for holding glasses. At least, I think it's to hold glasses. Thing is, while the case is deep, it's very, very short, so it'd only be good for storing glasses with really, really small frames. Is that what it's for? Or am I missing something. If that's what it's for, why were they so retarded when it came to this design? Everything else is properly designed...what gives?

Above the ashtray...

Postby PlayaDelReyDave » Mon May 04, 2009 4:15 pm

...I'm not talking about the spare change holder to the left of the steering wheel. This is above the ashtray, and directly beneath the AC controls....

It is covered in felt, which is why I think it's for glasses. But it is SOO THIN!!! They were being retarded when they designed it!

yup... holds spare change.. not glasses. If your solara didnt have the homelink control box, it has a glasses holder on the console light.

Could it be for holding a garage door remote? (if no homelink)

You have an SLE w/digital climate control I assume. If so, I just stick random cards/key cards/etc. in there. it's way too thin for any pair of glasses, although it does look like that's what should go in there.

It is designed as a change holder. Note the unique lip shape near the front that allows you to pull change up onto the ramp and it provides a space between the ramp and front of the drawer allowing you easily get your fingers under the loose change. A great design if you ask me.

OP Can I see pics of this compartment? I'm reading the thread and I think some ppl are thinking of the overhead sunglass/garage control/homelink compartment but ur description doesn't match with what some members are thinkin. Haha I dunno about everyone else but there isn't exactly a lot of space between my A/C controls and ashtray so seeing pics would help....
