Replace that crappy filter with a nice K&N, usually you can find brand new ones on ebay for $20/30

No, that's a "hot air intake". That's why your mileage is better - the intake air temperature went UP, not down.
Of course, the power went down as well....

I agree, you would get "cooler" air with the stock air box. I used to have a Injen short-ram on my Solara, so I know this from experience. SRI just makes the engine sound meaner, not necessarily improves performance or mpg.

sorry but u guys are wrong about the shorty, i have one on my solara and i can tell u i noticed a difference as soon as i put it on, that was before the trd muffler and the sc, it increases air flow way better than the stock air box period.......... :drinking:

Save money... pppssshhhh. Well I thought it was a cold air...
not much but its a start.
VERY little horse power increase and gas mileage.
It wasn't much $$$ either.

Hoses/fittings that route to and from an oil catch tank and the PCV valve. They are to prevent blow-by from entering the intake tract, and instead routing it to the tank.

ok I had a tank in that spot and never collected anything in it due to that not being the correct spot on my car so i moved it to the the correct spot where the actual plastic pcv valve is located on the other valve cover under the plenum and wow i never knew how much oil and water was cycled back into the Intake system
