Good day turned into bad, but good price on w/m semisyn oil
Wifey took her 99 solara to tired kingdom. They wanted $1000 for a brake job. All new calipers. rotors and pads.
Car as 116k, I did all 4 brakes around 75k with carquest gold (ceramic? I think). After further review. I saw that the front pads had 75%+ left. She was complaining about vibration in the steering wheel when braking, (never said anything about vibration in the seat) so I got the front rotors turned by my boy at the dealer and I had to push $10 tip to him. Cleaned up all the clips and pads on my benchgrinder wire wheel and brushed up the caliper and bracket in my parts sink(cleaned them up on the wire wheel also).
As for the rears, the inner pads were worn down at an angle, almost all gone on the one side. I still had the orig. organic pads and used those on the inner rears cuz they had big % left. Cleaned up the piston rubber by tapping the piston out and lubing the pivot stud with wheel bearing grease. Bled all 4 calipers til clear came out.
The routine oil change was a different story. I had a wal mart super tech 3614 to be removed and I didnt realize until she drove 1/4 mile that all the oil pushed out. I didnt see that the old oil filter gasket seperated from the filter And it all leaked out. When she finally pulled over 1/4 mile down the road there was still a trail and a puddle. Took the old blown out gasket off and retightened the fram and added 4 more quarts. Now the ckeck engine light is on, will disconnect the battery for a while in the morning to put it out. Hopefully all is well.
BTw my local walmart has 5w-20 semisyntheic motorcraft oil in the 5 quart jug for $11.50 (or $2.30 a quart jug price). I know the motor calls for 10w-30 but I dont think it will matter in the summer.
Funny thing, they no longer carry the super tech 3614 oil filter.
