Installing alarm

Installing alarm

Postby Brett0919 » Sat Apr 25, 2009 7:04 pm

Ok I don't know if I'm retarded or what but I can't find anything on installing a car alarm. I'm looking to buy the viper 5301 and I'd like to install it myself if I can get some help. I didn't know if pictures/wiring diagrams were available. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your car stick, or auto? What year is it?

The system you're looking to buy is a decent one. I've done a few of them. I personally went with a compustar unit on my gen1.

If you have a transponder key, you'll have to get a bypass module in order to have the remote start function.

I should've documented my install as I did it. It would've been an identical install to the one that you're attempting to do...just with a different system.

I'll get you a wiring diagram, and I'll try and take a few pics of my install...it might help you out.

Do you have any experience with wiring or anything like that?

I honestly can't thank you enough, I feel bad having you do this. I'm very good with this kind of stuff, whole custom sound system and everything. I've don't let anyone touch the car, I do everything myself. I can solder and everything as well. I'm going out now to do the wiring to run my fog lights separate from the headlights :) in case I don't respond back right away. Thanks again

No problem man. I commend your for taking on that job yourself. It's definitely no easy task for someone who isn't used to working with that stuff everyday.
There's a tutorial I wrote last summer on the foglight mod you're doing now. If you haven't seen it already....give it a once over.

TxBmbleBee, Here's a link to one:

off to a great night :/
The fog light thing didn't work, I soldered everything and the fog lights still work, but I can't run them on their own....and now I have my abs light on. I swear I'm gonna shoot myself. Off to bed, thanks again. Let me know if you have anymore info on the alarm, or any idea what the heck I could have done wrong with the fogs.

Whenever you can, put everything back the way it was before you started your foglight mod. Then check to see if your ABS light is still on. If so, check all your fuses.

After that, check out this link, and make sure you follow the instructions closely. Generally, I don't recommend soldering any of your connections until you know everything works as it should. If it doesn't work, then it makes troubleshooting lots harder.

Yea....thats not a very good tutorial. That wiring looks like a complete mess to me. I see connectors in there that are supposed to be used in home applications. Bad example to follow...

Try my tutorial...the only thing you might find different is the location of your foglight relay. I think someone else posted a pic of the location. It would seem that the convertibles have a different spot for the relay than the coupes do.

haha yeah your last comment there, was hell for me to find since I have the coupe. I tried it your way, works, and abs light is off :) I'm lovin you right now...no homo. Anyway but yeah let me know about the whole alarm thing whenever you get a chance, like I said, I'm in no rush so take your time. Thanks again for that and especially the fog light thing now too

Good work man!! .....glad it worked out for you. I think that foglight mod should be on every gen1-ers "to do" list.

I'll get some pics of my install as soon as I get a nice day over here. I generally don't move it from the garage if it's raining, or if I think it might rain.
