Keyless Entry

Keyless Entry

Postby jstarone » Wed Apr 15, 2009 7:07 pm

My Solara is totally loaded, but I didn't get a keyless entry remote with the car from the previous owner. He didn't know anything about it, but hes not the first owner of it. Was it something that came stock or was it a package? I just want to know because I might be able to get a remote and get it re programmed, if not then il put in a system to do it because I miss keyless entry.

Ok. Thanks. Im just wondering if I can just pick up a remote and get it programmed and keep it stock and not have to do the wiring. I can do the wiring, im just lazy lol.

Yeah if your car came with it, just buy the remote and it'll have programming instructions, which is basically just putting in the key, opening and closing your door x amount of times, yadda yadda yadda... no brain cells needed.

So I took a look and how do I tell if it has keyless entry or not? And also, what is up with the security light that flashes in my cluster? Do I have some kind of alarm factory installed?

BTW.. what is a fob?

Also, I only got the grey key, I think its just a valet key... it only opens the doors and starts it, wont open the trunk or lock the glovebox.. how am I supposed to program a new key without the master??? Can Toyota make me a new master key?

I have a 2000 and my car did not come with keyless entry. I has been discussed before and from my memory I thought someone said you can look under your drivers seat for a box.

this thread says under center console

I have also heard behind the glove box.

My 99 SE Solara had not keyless remote. I bought one new from Ebay, $15 CAN with shipping. You program it with the instructions and it works. The best "upgrade" for the bucks.

You only didnt have the remote or you didnt have the whole remote system. I dont have the system but I would love to. Im thinking about a remote entry/alarm/remote start combo system.

I don't know.. I have the "security" red LED blinking in my gauge.. and it's a 99 V6 SE. I bought the remote, nothing else.. and it works!

I wasn't sure if my car had or not a keyless function.. but for $15 I did a test! best upgrade ever, really. My next car will be with this feature for sure, or with the push button and smart key.
