Removing the Resonator for a louder sound?

Postby guest » Mon Sep 22, 2003 1:05 pm

Today at menieke i got my exhaust tinkered with , while there i asked the guy what i could do to get a louder sound, he said for about 80 dollars hed tkae the resonator out which would make the exhaust louder. He also said i might hear popping when i let off the acceelorator... i have no plans to do this mod but how would it work out, any one had it done ?
suggestions?

im satisfied with my solara now, but they said the resonator acts as a second muffler, therefore removing it would baffle the sound less, im not attempting it b/c it sounds rather cheap, just wanted you all to share some solara wisdom with me -josh

like i said in the other post, depending on what exhaust set up you have... it will depend on how much a job can be.

I had it done, it does pop and its really really not much louder atall, just at idle. I had my friend put it back on since the original cuts were clean. Don't waste the time or money.

80 bucks is a lot the shop where i used to get my old exhaust done at only charges like 25-30 bucks to take stuff off. and yea no resonator will make it louder, but popping? i dont' think so........

It doesnt get much louder... and it makes a sound that leaves you to ask: what did my car just spit out the back? Only everyonce in a while does it make this sound and it when you let off the gas and it drifts down to the 1500rpm range.

i've had this done for a few months now.. and honestly, with my exhaust (trd muffler...) my exhaust is louder through a higher rpm.. and it didnt seem to make it pop anymore.. it just made the popping a lil louder.. but ppl tell me that its a clean sound and it sounds like a really mean sleeper... but at the same time i had advanced my timing.. now i dunno if the exhaust beaign a lil louder and the popping being more pronounced had anything due to that or not.. but i have experienced both... my mechanic did it for free
