Update! Sprint Springs?!

Update! Sprint Springs?!

Postby ArizonaEagle07 » Thu Feb 26, 2009 12:19 pm

After my purchase of 4 Monroe Struts Sensa Trac & Sprint Springs for my Gen 1 Solara. I am now reluctant to use these springs because of my inability to read this forum for research and purchase of such an item!

After careful thought & consideration I just want to ask what are the cons of these springs for the Gen 1-1.5 if there are any.
What is it?
- Handling/Conering... to similar to OEM Springs
- To Bouncy
- Not much of a drop?
Any opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Should I just go ahead and purchase Eibach Springs instead.

Sprints give a low drop for sure (~1.8" fron t and rear I believe?), but word also is that the rears tend to sag lower over time, which is not appealing.

The ride will definitely be more stiff compared to OEM, due to the progressive spring rates.

The bounce would be more reliant on your struts as opposed to the springs, but I'm unfamiliar with the Monroes.

I personally like my Tein S-Tech springs a lot, and would give my approval of them.

Sprint Springs Suck

Ive never had Sprints on my Solara, but I did have them on my 240. I hated the ride quality and the cornering. Like Mr_Krispy1183 said the ride will be more stiff and it will. I know it wasnt the strut either because I still had the stocks on. When I would make a turn the back end would bounce like a basketball. I was so fed up with them I took them off after about two months. Ever since that day it has either been Tein or Eibach.

I have the Monroes w/Tein S-Techs on my Gen 1 Lara right now. I am very happy with the ride quality and height. I also have the TRD RSB which helps out tremendously. I can corner at higher speeds then most of my friends can. When I do the rear end stays down and it doesnt feel like its coming out from under me at all.

In my experience and some of my friends too, sprints suck. Go with the Eibach's or Tein's and get yourself a TRD RSB. You wont be disappointed.

Well my new Monroe SensaTrac Struts/Sprint Springs are installed.

My 2 cents:
After working on the front the drop was sick. The wheel well space was virtually eliminated! When placing the rear springs onto the strut I realized they were compressed just enough where I didn't need the springs compressor at all. Which I thought was a bit odd.

Once the Rear Monroe/Sprint setup was installed. I than lowered the car & realized that the rears do tend to sag a bit more.... ACTUALLY just enough to pull up the front end giving it 1.3" inch space in the wheel well.

The rear wheel well is not there because the tire is tucked up in it. Making it look like I have 5 people in the backseat & a full tank of gas. When in all reality I have nothing back there cause it is stripped out.

Ride Quality & Handling:
On stock tires and rims the quality is great along with handling. The car is much stiffer and corners very well. To well that I need a Sparco seat just to keep me in one place. The ride is not bouncy.

Overall:
Sprint = Front (1.8") Eibach = Back (1.6") will be the best combo for your looks and ride quality. Which I will be doing in the upcoming month or so. I just wish I could just purchase the rear set of Eibach.

If you like having your car look like you have a circus in the back go for it. If not just get the TEIN SS or Eibach to start off with.

NOTE:
- Alignment and Camber adjustment is well recommended.
- Upgrade your Rear Sway Bar Links to Moosh
- Re lubricate polyurethane bushings.

PICS COMING SOON!

If you'd be interested, I may be putting my Tein S-Tech rears up for sale if all goes well with the Gold-Line rears that I purchased from unbalancedwood. They will definitely alleviate the sagging problem you sound like you're having. I have experience no sag the entire time I've had my Tein setup installed.
