I'm afraid I'm going to have to recommend against the trans flush. You very well may want to change out your transmission fluid, but that is not going to help the problem you have described here. You already know what the problem is: your brakes are dragging (not fully releasing after you take your foot off the pedal). You are smelling overheated friction material from the brake pads. You are going to need one or more brake calipers replaced besides the obligatory pads/rotors. That will correct your condition and should give you better gas mileage to boot.
