Really tough to to say if its an Authentic TRD LSD. Ask them if its a Viscous LSD or Clutch Type LSD. If they say clutch type its TRD, if they say Viscous, its an OEM LSD from a MR2

auction says helical. as in helical-cut-gears. i have a torsen in my miata, but i can't really compare it with the trd clutch style in my camry since the drive wheels are on the opposite end. i can say that in the camry when i really get on it, it gets hard to steer - it sort of locks the steering wheel wherever i have it until i let off. scared the hell out of me the first time i happened since it left me pointed right at a light pole after making a right turn! got off the gas and wrenched the wheel left and got back on it and all was well... but nearly had to change my drawers after that.

only similar experience in the miata was due to breaking traction in the rear due to excess entry speed and then inevitable trail-braking trying to recover. i ended up with my front wheels in a ditch and rear wheels both on the white line. (whoops...)

Wow.

Almost $600 for a used LSD. I paid $600 for mine new. Unfortunately, I haven't installed it yet.
I A couple years back, I qot a couple quotes to install it. One guy quoted me $800 and the dealer quoted me $2000. My LSD still sits in its box on a shelf collecting dust. Someday, I'll install it.

Good luck with yours.

"helical" sounds like the Quaife made for TRD, which is a Tor-Sen (worm gear) design.

There are three types of LSD's all are different

1) Helical
2) torsen
3) Clutch type

Yeah, I know. I'm kind of embarrassed by that.
The Solara has really taken a backseat in my life.
I've exchanged a couple of emails with Gabe. Maybe this fall, my Solara will get a new engine. So, lots of upgrades coming soon.

Hopefully.
