RICER ALERT!
clue #1 - underglow kit
clue #2 - spoiler
clue #3 - lip kit
clue #4 - wanting to 'keep up' with friend's honduh and mitsi.
if you ask me, leave the rice to hon-duhs. forget the underglow kit, forget gaudy lip/body kits, and forget the excessive wing
re: underglow kit - sure it'll attract attention, FROM THE COPS. and if you're a young guy (<23 years old), then the cops don't really need any MORE reasons to mess with you. plus, it only looks cool if you're rolling with a crew, or at a car show. if you're rolling solo down the highway, and you're lit up for the heck of it, it just kinda looks foolish (IMO).
re: body/lip kit - if you're looking for something super aggressive (think: fast and the furious), then please reconsider. solara's aren't terribly fast (esp the I4), and aggressive body kits like that scream out "look at me, i like throwing junk on my beautiful car". i've always thought of the solara (both gen 1 and gen 2) as a classy car, with VIP styling (a lexus with a toyota badge). keep the look upper class, and refined, and you can't go wrong. start throwing on every peice of junk you can find, and you'll be the SG.com cautionary tale for future newbs.
don't get me wrong, there are a couple of lara's on here that have a non-TRD lip/body kit, and a couple of them look good....but what it comes down to is this: the ones that look good had enough money to do a custom job to make it look like something truly unique, not like something a highschool kid threw together after six paychecks from mcdonalds (i'm not calling you out specifically, rather, most new-age ricers in general).
re: spoiler - solara's are FWD. not only are you gonna draw more unwanted attention to yourself (COPS), but you're also gonna look like an idiot to anyone who knows anything about cars. people put tall wings on their rear ends to increase downforce on the rear wheels, to help traction in a RWD car. solara's are FWD, and do not need a spoiler. the reason that many people like the OEM solara spoiler (lip) is because it compliments the aggressive lines of the car, and gives it a more sleek streamlined look. it really doesnt act as a 'performance' spoiler, as most FWD street cars rarely have true performance spoilers.

if you asked me, and are on a budget, i'd recommend starting with suspension mods: with a slower I4, you can always increase handling more easily. the curb weight is less (smaller engine), so as a lighter car, it'll already handle better. throw on aftermarket suspension (sway bars, struts/springs, etc), and you will be able to learn how your car handles at ALL power levels (esp if you end up doing power mods later down the road).
of course, if my suspicions are correct, and you do have ricer tendencies, then i'm gonna go ahead and predict that the first mod you do (if not the underglow) will be a coffee can exhaust (lovingly referred to as a 'fart cannon').
please prove me wrong.
ps...if you end up doing a coffee can exhaust, underglow kit, , lip kit, and large spoiler, then please, don't forget the LED windshield nozzles......and the blinker fluid. they're both good for an additional 15 hp each [/sarc
pps...as a last little bit of wisdom: your friends in the honduh and mitsi should be trying to keep up with you. the solara is a much much nicer car to start out, and elevating it to a VIP look is very attainable. honduh's and mitsi's WISH they could start out at the level of luxury that we do. the compromise is that there is much more aftermarket support for honduhs and mitsis, but, if you're gonna mod a car wrong, then it really doesn't matter how much aftermarket support there is anyway.
just my two cents. when it comes down to it, it's your car to do with as you like. it just bugs me to see imports abused so badly by paul-walker-wanna-be's.
