weight of the solara

weight of the solara

Postby timefourfood » Wed Mar 18, 2009 9:59 pm

I have a 2000 Solara SLE coupe automatic, and during the smog check, it gave the test weight as 3625lbs. I looked up other car websites and they say the Solara curb weight is 3291lbs from http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/spec_ ... &trimid=-1

Is that correct, do I have a heavier car? Is the test weight on California smog check results reliable? Is my car like 400lbs more, that is ridiculous, cuz the gas tank was 1/4 full and nothin in the trunk, only spare tire and the tools along with it. Do you guys want to do a comparison and check yours out?

I don't know whether the weight 3625lbs included the smog check person in the car, if so then i guess deduct 200lbs. I didn't see what happen cuz I stepped out for 20mins. Is there a person in the car for smog check?

i just realized these cars weigh a little more than my chally lol wow i have done a few mods but these cars are kinda fat, i think that is one of the reasons i liked it, the way it felt just heavy enough but enough power to get around ,i feel a little safer knowing its almost 2 tons :P

curb weight should be with all fluids and gas tank full but no passengers or cargo, so the weight should include the spare tire as well since it includes standard equipment. And the automatic is probably about 80lbs heavier than the automatic, and the engines probably have about a 50lbs difference (and a bit between the 4cyl and v6 trannys as well). So make sure to take into account trim level as well of course- the SLE is a heavy sob for sure with all its leather power and everything.

The listed weight for the solara is around 3300lbs. And for gross weight, you'll have to take into account things such as yourself and anything else that's on the car that's not factory (i.e. systems, bodykits, wheels, etc.).

When I weighed my 3rd gen (cf hood, lighter seats tranny swap, moderately light wheels, painted body kit), after I subtracted my own weight and the weight of my system, it came out to under 3200lbs.

It sounds like a lot, but compared to most of the new sedans that are coming out these days such as the gen6 camry, accord, g35, etc which have a curb weight of around 3500 lbs (if not more), our older cars are fairly light, so once more power is added (i.e. boost), it actually becomes a force to be reckoned with.

I took my 99 camry v6 5sp thru the scale at my local recycle center and Its weight was 3260 w/ half tank of gas and all the bolt ons, the list is to long to type in. I was not in the car, I ask the person how accurate was the scale they said very since they calibrate every 3 days.

you'll have to take into account things such as yourself, that is what it will weigh on the track, after all a car with out a driver might as well just be a static model

Yep, you can't forget that...and the SLE top-of-the-line has a lot of goodies that the "plain" model doesn't have. I guess they always list the curb weight of the "plain" model with manual if possible.

heavier than the exact same car as a standard...probably between 50-80 lbs or so.

basically, I'm a pretty strong guy, so I can pick up the manual tranny in my arms and walk around with it if I wanted to, but there was no way that I could do that with the auto tranny. I could pick it up and walk a couple feet with it, but that's about it.

so yeah...probably pretty close to that.
