FIX MY SEAT??

FIX MY SEAT??

Postby tooshorty » Mon Mar 23, 2009 8:28 am

Ok so this morning I went about 5 blocks to my local Toyota Dealership to see what it will be to get my car fixed.(power seat) The automatic front seat's motor is broken and my ABS light is on. Two problems that I probably know what is the matter with both. But i figured hey the least I could do is just get a second opinion. WRONG. Service manager just told me that it will be $3000 for a new seat and just told me to take the ABS out and put them back with the pins.... WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!$3000

PLEASE HELP IF ANYONE HAS ANY IMPUT

Is the motor actually not making any noise or will it make noise and just not go anywhere? Mine wouldnt go anywhere but the motor was making noise, took it out and found a little couple inch long piece that came out, kinda like an axle for a car, poped it back in there and worked.

Either way, 3k...wtf!

4 bolts and the seat comes right out.

Also, make sure to disconnect the plug underneath the seat before pulling the seat out.

Instant back sweat lol. You could prob fry up some eggs on them but that might not sound too good in the afternoon. Anyways, I had a car that had the same problem, a 4runner, and the stealership wanted to charge me a fortune for it. I dont think this is YOUR problem but it turned out there was a penny stuck in the seat track lol. I just pulled it out and it was all fixed. :D

Dealer cost from service center is between $1200~1600 for a power seat. (Typical)

Selling price to manufacturer by seating company (leather, full power, front pair and rear bench) is about that same price for the entire set.

Cheaper vehicle seat sets (manual/cloth) are anywhere from $450 (LOW END) to the upper end of the spectrum at about $2500~$3000 for a THREE-ROW SUV in leather with power and second row function (tumble/dump/slide) etc...

It is often VERY difficult to repair a damaged motor in a seat, but the MOTOR is RARELY the failed part. (Usually mechanical, or an electrical circuit...)

Best to get a used seat and replace. As said, easy swap overall.

OK, please don't get the wrong idea, but the dealer did the "correct" thing telling you to replace the seat...and yes it costs that much.

They typically don't work seats as is. My seat has a rocking chair crap to it (not normal) and when dealer inspected is gave the exact response you got: replace the seat ($3,700). Seems that they don't work seats and work out the particular issues, even thought they have a very extensive parts catalog for individual seat components (go figure).

My guess would be to take your car to an electromechanic to have it looked at to make sure its not something that can be easily fixed. Still, try to take it to Toyota HQ if you want in the meantime, but do not give up elsewhere.
