*NEW Gen 2 Convertible Windscreen Installed (56K death)

Okay - so this was the shittiest install job I've yet to do to my new car... and I wouldn't recommend trying to install this yourself unless you have several beers and work in an area that you can swear alot!! :o

I would have taken time to take photos and do an install tutorial, but while I was doing it all I could think of was 1) getting the friggin' job done, and 2) how I would have done things differently than the stupid instructions that came with it!

Anyway - the biggest thing I would recomment to anyone, is if you take the rear panels out completely and can use the Roto Tool on them outside of the car - THEN DO IT! What a mess it was trying to get all those little static-cling plastic shavings cleaned up in the rear window and seatbelt tracks! I still see them when I roll up the rear windows. Grrr!

Or... if you follow the directions and do that step first, then don't bother taking the panels completely out - or even take out the rear deck panel screws for that matter - just pull the panel toward the inside of the car and reach in to bolt in the brackets - saves a lot of time and alignment probs!

So... here are the photos of it installed...

Mounting Detail - the Windscreen drops into the slots and is removable so you can put it in a bag in the trunk in a jif if you want.

Here's with the windows rolled-up - the most effective way to drive with it. Barely any noise and almost NO WIND!! I can actually talk on my cell phone @ 80mph on the freeway now! (hands-free BlueTooth of course!) ;)

All-in-all, this is a great investment, but IMO - if you can afford to have the dealer install it - GO FOR IT! ;)

Congrats Jeff. These are great pics! (Nice neighborhood too!) I can feel the excitement in your posting. (Christmas time in April)

Too bad you didn't take pics during the install. It would've made a great tutorial. (For those few persons able to get one.)

As for going to the dealer for the install, remember how rare that part is. I can see the dealer breaking a tab or messing something up and not being able to replace it. Yikes!! :o I think you did the right thing putting it in yourself.

All the more reason to post a "lesson's learned" tutorial even if you just use pics of the post-install result.

Congrats on the find.

WOW, I was thinking of getting one of those. Who knew what a pain it woud be to install.

I decided not to get one becuase I thought it would take the fun out of the convertible...I like the wind.

When I want to talk on the phone, I just put the windows up and that's quiet enough for me.

I do like the look though, I always thought that those windscreens looked kinda neat.

I think Phreaked is right though, they must be rare. Yours in the FIRST I have seen with one, so the dealer may not have much experience in installation.

Looks great! Everytime I see your car, I start getting itchy to get mine back from the body shop!!

Hey thanks guys. :)

I would have been too embaraassed to post pix of my install - trust me. It's a really messy job and knowing what I do now, I would have approached it differently. Maybe I can dig the instructions out of the trash and scan them - make suggestions for alternatives and post that as the DIY?

For my camera, I use a Canon Digital EOS (either the 300D or 20D - saving up for a 5D this year) - and an 18-55 zoom lens for these shots. When I get a chance to really polish up the car and get out to a nice location (besides just in front of my house) I'll get out the longer lens and take some better shots.

Another nice day today so I'm gonna head up the beach and test out my Windscreen some more! ;)
