Squeaking Clutch?

Squeaking Clutch?

Postby firesgt911 » Mon Mar 02, 2009 11:12 am

I did a search and found several posts talking about the squeaking clutch, but I couldn't find excactly what I need to lube. I thought I lubed everything down there this weekend, but it is still squeaking. It is obnoxious!

Can anyone shed some light on what I need to lube in laymans terms? Pictures would help too.

Again, I'm sorry for posting something that has been discussed before. I am just not getting it.

Thanks in advance.

if it's in the engine bay, then it's probably your throw-out bearing

and if it is, you can't lube it, and it will need to be replaced the next time you change your clutch

It doesn't sound like it is in the engine bay. I was inches away in the floorboard and it seemed right there. I just couldn't pinpoint it. That's not to say it wasn't.

What is the approximate cost of replacing the bearing?

around the floor board area...then maybe it's the clutch pedal (if you're lucky). have somebody take a listen in the engine bay while you push the clutch up and down while also putting some load on it (light gas in neutral) to see if it's coming from the transmission bellhousing area

as for the bearing cost- part = $30 (around there), labor = $500+

b/c you have to part the motor and tranny to change the bearing. basically, an entire clutch job almost

I appreciate all the responses. I will check the engine bay for the sound. As far as labor, I will do it myself. I am pretty mechanically inclined. I may refer to everything as a dohickey or a whatchamacallit, but I can do tranny work and replace a clutch. My grandfather owned a transmission shop and I grew up in there.

My big thing is, if it is a quick fix I am all for it. I don't want to change the clutch as it is as smooth as butter right now. If it aint broke, I don't want to fix it. I can live with the squeaking if it comes down to it.

Thanks everyone!
