04 Solara Navigation... button color and display at night

Postby weezer420 » Sat Sep 13, 2003 7:32 am

Hey...

Does anyone know what color the buttons look like at nite on the navigation unit... they look white in the pictures, but I imagine they should be green to blend with the rest of the car.

Also, is it possible to "dim" the brightness of the screen.... that would make the car glow at nite.

Thanks

Almost all navi screens have a day/night setting. Sometimes it is wired to the headlights so when you turn them on, the navi dims, other times you just hit a button

Yes, the buttons are the same greenish color at night.

The screen has brightness and contrast controls. And you can also set it to day mode or night mode.

thanks jp82729.

Do you have an 04' Solara for yourself, or are you just familiar with this unit?

I am also trying to figure out if it has an AUX input... to hook up an ipod or Sirius sat radio(the solara is XM Ready, but not sirius ready). This may require a blitzsafe adapter... but of course blitzsafe or toyota has not responded to me yet. It always amazes me that no one is ever able to give specs on these things, even simple questions like the sizes of the front speakers.

Anyway, everyone on this bored has been so helpful... as usual. Thanks guys! :)

Weezer,

What is "Blitzsafe"? And if you can figure out a way to get my iPod hooked up to my JBL system in my 04 Solara I'll drive to wherever you live and give you a big kiss! Well, maybe I'll have my wife give you a big kiss. (Hey, careful out there. I know what you're all thinkin'!)

in regards to your ipod question why dont you just get the adapter for it that basically turns it into a brodcast station and broadcast it to your car stereo and anyone else tunes into what ever the station you preset it to broadcast

my friend has this and we drrive side by side and both listen to his tunes via his ipod and i belive the added hardware is called the griffen

shoe,

Never heard of this! Does it sound pretty good? Does it cut out? I used something like that with a CD player on a different car and the radio station had a hard time holding the station. How much does the hardware cost?

I have used the cassette adapter thing, but its a hassle to use.

Wow! Lots of questions! Sorry.

hehe... we both have lots of questions.

He is basically talking about a unpowered FM modulater... they work pretty good, and sound ok. (Keep in mind I am an absolute music enthusiast, so I judge these things pretty harsh). Its basically a little black "walkman" type unit, that will run off little batteries and "attempt" to override the signal on a weak FM station, will still giving you descent quality sound. it is wireless, and an easy way to get an external source pumping through your speakers, but you really lose a lot of sound quality.

A powered FM modulater, which plugs directly into your car radio in the back, and then your original antenna plugs into that... sounds much much better, but still not good. It completely overides just about any station, as it plugs directly into ANY car stereo... it also has a direct connect power source, instead of running off of batteries.

Better yet is a cassette adapter, but your tape heads where down over time. The cassate adapter is the way most people hook up their "discmans" too their car stereo that only has a cassette input, and doesnt want to change anything in the car.

One of the cleanest ways to add equipment is either through the "proprietary" port on the back of your stereo(most aftermarket stereos have this available, and MOST OEM MFRs, like ford, toyota, chevy, volkswagen have 1 of 2 proprietary inputs(one for an EXTERNAL 10 or 6 disk changer, one for an auxilary input, and now some cars for sattelite radio).

I know its a little confusing, but bottom line FM MODS suck, once you have heard a direct input(sounds as good as a CD, instead of a Flat FM station)

Hopefully someone will have an answer soon... I plan on buying my car in the next couple weeks, and want to have my sirius sattelite radio, I just cannot live withought it. I havent heard a commercial in almost 2 years boys... The solara is XM satellite radio ready(which is a competitor of sirius) and it has commercials on 1/2 of their channels, and a rather poor rock, pop, and punk selection, but is strong in other areas.

too each their own... hopefully someone picked up some useful tidbits. With the right adapter, you can even get a record player sounding pretty good in your car!

As far as I am concerned the best set up is too rip everything out... throw in a nice headunit(stereo) some nice rear speakers, component system up front, two amps, and a sub working in perfect harmony... but this is basically impossible to do in the Solara, especially with the navigation unit. My corolla S has an amazing sound system, that I installed... but that is just about the only thing I like about the car... thats why it is getting sent back! :)

Ok I think i am out of breath now. :agrue:

hey foto...

blitzsafe is the name of a company, that makes special products to convert all those special pins on the back of your toyota, ford, nissan, gm, etc. stereo system(head unit). to accept input from another audio source, for a PERFECTLY clear sound, just as clear as whatever you hook up is outputing.

ex:

10 disk changer
sattelite radio
ipods and other mp3 players.

check out the cables on their website. http://www.blitzsafe.com/

As for toyota compatibility... they will work on all radios from 1998-2003, and most 2004... however the new solara as not been tested because 3 reasons.

~It is the first toyota radio to be compatable with one of the satellite radio companies.

~It is the first oversived stereo that toyota has put out, and is custom designed for the solara.

~The 2nd gen nav unit is relatively new, and not tested yet.

Just bought this from local Bestbuy.

It's kinda work, was using transfer cassette with cable to MP3 player, now it's running clean - no clutter no cable

for 30$, I'd say try it ... maybe it'll solve your problem without having to dissect the beautiful 04 :D
