NEED HELP: Transmission Swapping

Postby SpeedySolara » Thu Jan 29, 2009 11:45 pm

I dont think they're the same. The manual has a clutch master cylinder and the auto has a brake master cylinder. I'll do a physical check though, where are those parts located? Also, if I dont swap the master cylinders, what happens? I think the radiators are different too. Does anyone know?

the clutch and brake master cylinders are different. the brake master cylinder is on mounted the brake booster and the clutch master cylinder is mounted directly on the firewall beside the brake booster

I know that the brake booster and the brake master cylinder are different between non-abs and abs, so it may be different between traction control and non-traction control

as for the rads, yes they are different as well. the auto rad has a tranny cooler built into the bottom of it. you can swap them, but you can also just use an external tranny cooler instead

Does any other part that needs to be changed along with the manual transmission come to mind? So far its:

All manual transmission parts (clutch, pedals, etc.)
Cluster
ABS Actuator
Radiator

I found out from Toyota that the brake master cylinders and brake boosters are different (like King had mentioned) because of the traction control so that must be swapped as well. I'm making my finishing touches on research and confirming fitment, etc. I will keep everyone posted as to the progress of this swap, I know some of you have your eyes peeled for this one.

I've been wanting to perform this swap myself. Let us know how it goes. To anyone that has done the swap already, is it too terribly bad or is it just a lot of plug and play with parts and ecus?
