I've searched with very little luck but as the title says has anyone ever mounted fatter series tires on gen1 solaras?

I have a set of IS350 rims that i am planning on mounting on my car with my tein s-tech and a 15mm spacer for the rear. I wanted to try to minimize the gap and possibly get a softer ride out of the tires with a 45-50 series tire.

has this been done before?

I was thinking i should be fine as long as i keep the diameter the same size as whatever recommended size 19" rims and tires people use..

Thanks in advance!

225/45 should fit. Depends on wheel offset and width

I'm running that tire with 18's and a 35 offset. i rub on dips, but that will go away once I roll the fenders.

the offset is +45 with an 8" width in the front and +50 with an 8.5" width in the back. The 15mm spacer will help clear the rear

You should be fine then. mine are 18 x 8 and have a 35mm offset. With what you have said, that size tire should not give you any problems. Only think you will have to worry about is if it might rub the strut, but it shouldn't. 8)

I ran 40 series on 18s... it seems like 50 series would just be too tall and throw the speedo off a lot, but I dont know that for sure.

Have u modded your fender?

When i had teins with my setup of 225-40-18 and hit a dip i would rub. I think 45 will just make it more easily to rub. Well unless u roll and pull your rear fenders a bit.

My next set of tires would be 215-40 18. So i can be lower and not rub.

Yeah i thought 50s would be to much but then again do you think 19s with 35 series would be comparable in size?

use one of the many tire size calculators out there. Try searching for miata.net tire size calculator and it will tell you how close to stock your setup is/ how much difference the speedo will show.

I have shaved my rear fenders all the way up to the bend...you think that should that be enough to clear 225/40....i have a pair of 245/40s that i wanted to use for the rear, would that be cutting it close? if you're rubbing with 225/40 then 225/45's would be even worse right?

I do have the front fenders rolled a little and took off the inner fender liner....will that clear with the 225/40s? any chance with 225/45s?

i just found a full set of 215/45s on Craigslist in my area, you think that might be a better solution or would it stretch it to equate to 225/40s

If you don't mind could i talk to you over the phone?

thanks,
Rimal

with those offsets, you'll be fine. since they're higher offset, the worst that will happen is you'll need to add some spacers (which you have anyway in the rear)

if the offsets were lower, then you'd have to worry about the fender

Just wanted to thank everyone for there help but looks like i will be just going back to stock.

I'll be selling my IS350 rims to fund my VQ35HR(2007 350z motor) transplant into my 1973 Datsun 240z. OHH boy that's going to be scary fast.

Post still made for good discussion.

Here is the craigslist post if anyone is interested
