It's not so much that it rubs, its the infrequency. Lowered cars that want truly low stances will rub, that's inevitable. It's only under certain instances (which I stated earlier, as did SleeperSolara) in which is there is slight rubbing. Even so, on mine, I rub on the plastic fender liners, not metal, so it's not bothersome/damaging.

The threads I read, including this one, involve 18s. So they pretty much gotta have low pro tires. Im running Monroe/Tein w/205/40/17. My tires dont rub at all. The thing is, is that I hate my tires. They are to dam small. I dont plan on buying tires or rims in the near future. Mainly because my springs are fresh. Im eventually gona get COs, but for now its springs/struts. As for rims I want 18s, but I also wana be able to have bigger tire. Atleast in the area of 225/45-55/18. If that means I have to stay with 17s, then so be it.

IT seems that i have notice that people that run aggressive offsets around +30 or lower rub on tein stech and tokico. The teins are a bit soft so when you come to a dip, the shocks travels down and the wheel/tires rubs.

I am on JIC coilovers now and my fronts dont rub at all (modified fender guards) and my rears only rub with full load and over a dip.

^Kevin, how hard was it to roll/shave your fender liners? I remember you posting pics, but just how labor intensive was it?

I bought an angle grinder from SEars for like 25 bucks and went at the fender. I never had any prior grinding experience and just cut whatever i didnt need. I did this couple time because i couldnt get the right amount off the liners. If ur patient it will look good. If you are not, u may slip and grind off part of ur car.. haha i did that but just a small bit.

I suggest rolling ur fenders, because u get a cleaner edge but if ur on a budget and DIY is your thing, do with the grinder. By the way dremel dotn work, i flew by 4 carbon grinding plates.

Good stuff, but I think I misguided my question to you. I was referring to the plastic fender lining up front, the one where you had to avoid the ABS line?

Back on topic,

My tire size is 215/50/17 with a 35mm offset I believe.

Oh and to those talking about coilovers, yes I know that is the better method but I don't have the budget for that right now.

And yes, I do plan to get a RSB soon.

^I would go with either the Eibachs or Tein.

If you have speakers in the trunk or plan on getting some speakers go with the Tein S-Techs. You will get more of a drop up front and the speakers will even out the back.

If you dont plan on putting anything in the trunk go with the Eibachs. You will get an even drop.

I understand not getting COs. I want'em too, but couldn't afford them either. With the tires you have now you shouldn't have a problem rubbing. Just be carefull with speedbumps.

Your definently gona want a TRD RSB. It goes great with a lowered car. PM NVDIS1 (Reggie) he will hook you up.

For sure due to offset, that is a really aggressive offset for a solara. I was rocking 17x7.5 +42 when I had my tein/tokico, so that explains it. I dont think you would rub with a more mellow offset though.

When looking at this sort of stuff, you really have to look at ALL of these factors:

wheel width, diameter, offset
tire size

The wider a wheel is, the lower the offset needs to be to get the same fitment as a skinnier wheel.

I think it's cause i have a 40 or 45 offset that causes my rubbin' in the back.
But then again that's only when i have 3 people in the back seat.

OHHH the Fender GUARD. haha
Heat and push. Heat gun the inside and use ur hands( with gloves so u dont burn ur hand) and push against the fender guard so that its flush against ur fenders and frame

^I just did my liners last weekend. It helps to heat then hold for a few seconds. I found the liner has some memory and prefers to shrink back to it's normal position when cooling.

Hmm seems like everywhere wants ~$500 for installation. Best price I found was $540 for install and alignment. This puts total cost around $1100. Bleh. Maybe it'll have to wait.

^Shop around, there's bound to be someone who will install for cheaper. The lowest price I found for an installation around my way was $160.
