Thanks Eyal,

I appreciate that you are making every effort you can for us. That, at least, should be clear to everyone here.

Update on the intake!

We didnt forget you guys just been busy and haven't had much to report until now.

Right now we have only one problem on our plate which we are trying to fix. The car shuts off sometimes after hard accelaration, you floor the car, let off the gas real fast and the car dies, thats not a good thing.

We are playing around with the air/fuel mixture to see what can be done to fix it. We are going to make another version of the intake with just smaller piping to see if that improves anything, the 3 inch piping is just too big. Off the line its not as quick as it was with the stock intake but top end it feels stronger and faster.

We will see what we can do to fix the remaining problem and i will update as soon as i have any news.

Headers are coming very very soon. As soon as i get them i will post some pics and dyno them ASAP.

Thanx, Eyal

In the air/fuel part, does that mean that there is going to be software for the intake?. or your going to use smaller tubing to fix the air/fuel mix like you said...

Good luck w/ the R&D Eyal! appreciate it!

j0hn19,

We will not release the intake if we have to include any software or a black box for the intake, we dont like selling parts like that. We will try to fix the problem with the smaller piping version of the intake, if that will fix the problem then that will be the version we will release.

Thanx, Eyal

hey guys i havent read up on the posts lately but i saw what eyal said about the piping problem and the cars shuting off . I thought you all might be intrested in this.

Danny Posted: Fri Aug 15, 2003 7:52 pm Post subject: More questions ?????

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You dont think ive tried that...ive tried spacers, brackets, rubber, urethane. etc. You still didn't answer my question as to how much road test time you have on this, ohh also if the angle is wrong on the filter or it gets too much ram air our maf sensors cause the car to shut off if you have the clutch in/nuetral and coasting above 65. Believe me its notfun almost went into a gaurd rail with no power steering and weak brakes

eyal posted this on sept 9th.

Eyal i posted this on the 15th of aug. It took you nearly a month to figure that out that there are two problems, that i already warned you about. "I dont know anything im just a punk kid right?" Im sorry but thats pathetic. Also i remember you posting this.
We will start contacting people and taking orders for the intakes on Monday the 19th which at that point we will already have dyno results and pictures of the production version. Once we have 15 paid orders we will start production and then it will take 2-3 days until all the intakes are ready to ship.

You had 40 people willing to buy your intake, without you doing any testing on it thats pretty amazing to me. And hmm now after a month you find out that its not going to work.

I hope im not the only one who doesn't see that theres a problem here.
Eyal ive always told you i was just trying to help. Can you see that now?

Guys, do you really need this CAI? I mean not the Xerd one or Danny, but in common?

Put TRD Air Filter in your stock box and be happy - increase in hp on S/C engine is higher than with any Ingen or RMM  ... If you need more compression in your intake collector - you should just move the tube from the stock air box into the front of the car to get more air.... :o Just change your Air Flow Meter to the one that Supra has and be happy.

yea i dont mind my k&n either, but i still want a CAI, and i would think that along with the 40 other people who put in their name for one.. Danny made an excellent point, but its better now than never.... i think its a good thing/sign that eyal is big enough to swallow selfish pride and responsible enough to do more R&D to deliver a good product... afterall, what good is business if no likes your product...

I think that MIGHT be close to being true with your setup because from looking through your mods, it doesn't look like you've modified your exhaust either. With a stock setup my bet is the normal car will see just very slight improvement with a RMM or Injen over the stock air box with a K&N drop-in. As you increase the cars ability to exhaust, the intake becomes more significant. Especially with a supercharger, I think both are important but even more so, the exhaust. With the supercharger on there, I'm surprised you haven't done anything with your exhaust. There was a article in Road & Track or Car & Driver or something like that shortly after the Solara came out and they stated the only thing holding this car back was it's breathing. Have you dyno tested with a stock box and drop-in vs. an RMM or Injen? Cause I don't believe that claim.

The answer may and probably will change with the mods each person has done. With my supercharger w/6psi pulley and JP Performance 3" exhaust from headers to muffler tip, I think my car needs the extra air at intake. I even wonder if XERD's 3" CAI might work great on my car (possibly needing the Supra MAF sensor).

So, once you have more air coming in from the short-ram, you're back to the original question, "do you need a CAI?". The easy answer is YES. Especially in hotter areas. That has been discussed here with some pretty factual data. Over all, for the volume of air and the constant/cooler temperature, the CAI is needed. Make sense? Opinions? -JoeB

Hey Danny, I ain't mean nothin by this so don't take offense, but eyal is trying, u kno? Yea, when u first warned Xeerd bout the CAI problems most of us still took it to mind, n I dun think Xerd COMPLETELY disregarded it, eyal jus figured that since ya'll don't think alike that maybe ya'll design would be diff. It's jus opinions thas all. I'm sure u've tried everything for tha CAI u can think of, but I give credit to Xerd cuz they the only ones that are tryin to make somethin for other Solara drivers out there. :)

Do you know that a CAI scheme of taking air near the ground is not the best variant with maximum air flow? The variant that I described above is much better and it can probably give you more cold air than a CAI from XERD (but i don't know exactly if it is located near the ground or in front of the car).

As i think, most people know that placing an exposed airfilter under the bonnet is just asking for the engine to take big breaths of hot air. To avoid that outcome, it's now common to fit a cold air intake - 'CAI' - and seal it to the airbox.
However, what's generally not realised is that if a positive pressure can be generated in the cold air intake, the engine will perform better again.

Actual on-road measurements that we made by Autospeed in Australia show that at speed, a good cold air intake can easily have sufficient air pressure within it to completely cancel the flow restriction of the aircleaner. So, even though the effect of ram air on performance isn't huge, there's a worthwhile gain that can be made.

But getting that pressure build-up in the duct requires that the mouth of the cold air intake be sited in an area of high pressure. And where's that, then?

As the car moves forward, air is deflected above, below and to each side of the car. Some of the air is deflected over the top of the bonnet, passing along the bonnet, flowing up the windscreen, along the roof, down the rear window and then leaving the car's body at the trailing edge of the boot. (To keep the flow attached to the body in the described manner, the car must have gentle changes of angle only - especially from the roof to the rear glass to the bootlid.)

Other air is deflected beneath the car, flowing along an engine under-tray and then getting mixed with the turbulent flows exiting the engine bay (the air going thorough the radiator has to get out somewhere!) and the other turbulence created by the exhaust and suspension, not to mention the spinning wheels.
Image

There is not such a big difference between kone and flat High flow Air Filter - if you provide them with cold air - both will act quite well :bday: (especially TRD - I have it and you can't compare it with K&N - TRD is much better :drinking: )
Of corse, cone filter can take more air - but you can modify your air box to put it inside, because with this construction you will avoid a lot of dust to be inducted into the engine.

That is why I like xXSolaraXx air intake construction - I think it should provide a good gain 8)

aren't the TRD filter and K&N practically the same thing? With the only difference being theTRD costing twice more than a K&N and the name "TRD"??
