all the new cars look like an egg, remember the pacer, i think thats where this new styling came from, pretty much most new car body styles suck, and the new trucks look like volvo's with big flaired fenders, its either egg shape , or big boxy volvo trucks, i'll stick with old school......... :drinking:

Personally....I LOVE the new camrys. I test drove the LE 5 spd 4cyl, and then the LE V6 and I ALMOST put a down payment on the V6 one, but I didn't due to some closer examination of my finances. Anyhow, the new Camry handles better, IMO, looks better, has a much better motor and tranny and of course it is much much much faster. Lol. I will most likely get one eventually if I don't pick up a Z32 in the next couple of months.

I didn't say the Camry was a bad car and we all have differant taste in looks, so what I think is good looking someone else will think it is ugly.
Really the question is no longer Camry v. Solara as the Solara is no more.
We can no longer buy a new Solara, so if you no longer want a two door coupe and like the looks of the Camry it would be a good choice. As for me I hope Toyota comes out with some new design or model before I buy again.

New to this forum, and yes I have introduced myself. My daughter bought the Solara. I own a 06 DC Tundra with the XSP package. I couldn't believe it when I read this post. At the Tundra site I frequent the same gen 1 vs gen 2 subject was always going on. I have a gen 1 tundra and had to listen to crap from the gen 2 owners. now i see it goes on here to. as with the tundra's, the solara's probably have both plus and minus's from each genaration. just had to mention this. i'm sure that had forums exsisted 40 years ago you would have heard the same thing about GTO's, Nova's and Mustangs to mention a few.

^ This thread is comparing the new Gen 6 Camry vs. the Gen 2 Solara. It is not comparing a Gen 1 Solara with the Gen 2 Solara. In this case, the newer Camry which rides on a completely new chassis is being compared to the Gen 2 Solara, which sits on the older Gen 5 Camry chassis.

Basically, what we have concluded is that the 2007+ Camry is better than the 2004-2008 Solara :sweet:

After looking for weeks I found the only Camry I liked, XLE Grey/grey leather /V6 to replace the 99 Solara, This new Camry is faster and has a smoother ride than the LE/SE 4's. So far I'm very satisfied with my new purchase, but I miss my old Solara too. Thought about a new Solara so I could say that I had the first year and last year model, oh well this Camry should be a nice ride the next ten years and with all the bells and whistles it isn't boring....Paul

Let them 'dish' all they want... when it comes down to it, I still own the Gen2 and it's baaaaaaadaaaasssss... for a daily driving, freeway cruiser.

I don't think a Gen2 Solara can be accurately compared to the new Camry. They're different cars. If you want to compare a Solara to a Camry, you have to use the previous Camry model otherwise, it's just bullshitting.

While we're at it, the Ford Festiva is much better than a Chevy Corvette... that makes just as much sense as comparing old Solara to new Camry.

haha but camry and solara have the same engine! you're right to a certain point though... if you wanna compare camry and solara, do it by year - not old to new. i'd believe that the new camrys are better than the new solaras.. but in 2004 when the gen 2 first came out? nahhhhhhhhhhh!

I agree, they should make a Gen3 Solara like this.

I currently own 08 camry hybrid and 06 solara. I kind of disagree with whoever says camry is better than solara.
Here is my experience with both:
1. interior: solara has way better interior materials than camry (more soft touch materials, better fit and finish). The camry has way more rattles especially when it is cold out there. There is no competition between the 2.
2. seats: camry has nice seats for long trip but literally no side support and the bottom cushion is too short. I prefer solara's seat.
3. noise: camry has less wind noise but has more tire noise than the solara. engine noise is more pronounced in solara.
4. handling: camry handles like school bus (fast corner = big no no) but I don't know about the SE though.

Both cars are mechanically perfect (both has over 30K miles and no single trouble) which is expected from toyota.

overall, I like solara way better than camry. I can say gen 6 camry is a big downgrade compared to solara.
