LOL...I can't see you at a stop light doing that. I have one in my car too, but I generally dust it off before I drive away form home..ha ha.

Seriously, I have a convertible and live in FL. Top is down 97% of the time and it's blazingly hot in the summer and the sun is like a nuclear reactor. The only thing that gets damaged is my skin! I never put anything on the dash and mine is fine...3 years and counting. Never had a problem with any other car either.

Actually I don't use armor all in my dash, just a damp cloth to clean the dust. I'm really freaked about this because I have other two cars and never have this issue. My wife Highlander is in the sun each and every day in the parking @ work, mine instead is in a garage in the shadow every day. As for armor all, I dont used it in my car, but in my 1991 p-up I always use it and never had a crack. A friend of mine has a 2007 4 runner and told me his dash also cracked sideways. He make an insurance claim and they pay for it (after the deductible). I'm inclined on going that way, I thnk i'll have to give my insurance a call.

prsolara I'm from Caguas. I think negroni is from PR also.

Well, hope you can claim and get some paid. I didn't know you could claim such, but if it pays, go for it.

Yes, I live in PR... no longer living in Ponce, actually in Bayamon right now.

Meant to put this in. I've been treating my dash as if it were leather and when I condition my seats just hit the dash and door panels at the same time. Don't know if that's good or not but made sense to me (that's might not be saying much). I'm garage kept for the most part or on the road.

Question. Does anyone know if there is a ampaign to replace the dashboard in the Toyotas? I went to a dealer to buy the brake pads and talked to him about my dash issue, and he told me that there was a campaign to replace damaged dashboards. It make sense to me since once I has a Kia that the dash curled up and even out of warranty the changed it with no cost to me sinc it was a factory campaign. Is there any way of knowing if this is true or not?

Dash Mat

Postby red2002solara » Fri Feb 13, 2009 11:19 am

I've never used Armour All on my Solara or any of previous cars. I've always had a dash mat put in my cars.

Between the dash mat and window tinting I've got my baby protected from the hot summers here in Phoenix. Plus my car is always parked in my carport and away from the sun

I'm having the same problem on my 2004. When I bought it 8 months ago, there was a diagonal crack on the passenger side, just below the carbon fiber trim and to the left of the center console. Just recently, another appeared between the middle instrument bezel and the carbon fiber trim (took a week to travel). Now there's one to the left of my stereo bezel.

Since buying my car, it is garaged at home and at work. I have used Armor All periodically, but I doubt that has anything to do with it. There must be a defect as I thought cracked dashes in Japanese cars disappeared in the 80's. I'd like to know more about the "campaign" to replace the dash.
