Instrument panel lights not working

Instrument panel lights not working

Postby Redline280 » Sat Jan 24, 2009 6:43 pm

I was just driving around and when it got dark out i noticed i could no longer see how fast i was going or any of the guages. The shifter light also doesn't work and the time on the clock doesn't dim anymore when I turn my lights on. The weird thing is that all the lights such as seatbelt, airbag etc. work before I start my car. The fuses all seem fine. Any ideas? Thanks!

did you check BOTH the inside AND engine bay fuses?

Possibly the dimmer switch is bad too.

Actually I only checked the engine bay fuses but they all seemed fine. I'm not sure where the other fuses are. Are there for sure fuses inside my car too? I have a 2001 Solara SE and I can't seem to find anymore fuses on the drivers side. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

no the fuse for the panel will not be in the engine bay. sit in your drivers seat, to the lower left of the steering wheel under the vent you will see a tray that opens up and stores stuff. gently remove it because it has to go back in. and replace the fuse labeled panel, should be a 7.5, there is a map on the back of the tray you pull out, it will guide you to the right one.

sorry about my previous post i was thinking about my 4 runner which has a panel that you pull out, yours will be a tray

OK, sit in your drivers seat.

now look down to your left, below the mirror controls.

kinda by your left knee.

yeah, that little drawer (presumably for coins, or whatever).

remove that little drawer, and you will find more fuses behind it. the key is on the back of the little drawer (like the key for the engine fuses are on the inside of the fuse lid).

the drawer just kinda pops off, look at how it's connected on the sides and you'll figure it out.

hope that helps
