Lip Kit

Lip Kit

Postby mattyboy243311 » Mon Dec 29, 2008 1:08 am

My friend has a 07 solara sport with the lip kit on it and he says he is willing to sell it to me. My question is will it fit on my 2004 solara and how hard is it to take off and put back on the vehicle. Is it screwed on, glued on, or is it just velcro like some vehicles. If screwed on how many screws are there and would it be a hassle to take off? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I think the lip kit is the same, but the front and rear bumper in general what is different.

The problem with your friend selling the kit is that its a screw-on kit, not glued on. I think the sides are no problem since it removes the stock sides and replaces them with the kit sides, but not sure about the front and back pieces, since I can't find any holes. So, its not really your problem alone, but his too, since he would have to plug 'em with some bondo and paint.

Not sure about the Gen2.5 but my Gen2 has an adhesive gasket-like material underneath that is reinforced with screws.

As far as looks go, Gen2.5 rear ground effect may look good but I can't imagine the front Gen 2.5 "fangs" matching up with the Gen2 bumper. The Gen2 fangs are waaaay more pronounced-- flaring perfectly off the big foglight recess while the Gen2.5 fangs are more subdued and appear only attached underneath the new smaller foglights. I just don't think the front "fangs" can be mixed and matched between the Gen2 and 2.5 at all. But nonetheless, I think the side skirts and rear should be no problem aesthetically.

It will fit if you replace the front and rear bumpers to the 2.5 version as well. The 07 kit will not fit on the 04 bumper... at least that is what it looks like to me. Milt said they would most likely fit as is... so now I think someone needs to try it

WHY would your friend want to "risk" removing it from his car???

Other than that, it may be possible... but sometimes, a lip/kit done poorly (not because of anything YOU do wrong... but due to fit, condition upon removal, etc...) can look worse than NO kit.

Just remembering some lip/install/transfer stories that were a little scary in the past...

G/L! (LOVE my Sport WITH it stock!)
