99 Solara Headlight HID and Fog light Upgrade

Postby Rookie Solara » Wed Dec 31, 2008 1:09 pm

Since I am spending my money to keep my Solara going for another 10 years I hope (already 10 years 130,000 miles passed)...I am wondering which HID conversion kit I should go for...?

I am looking at EBAY and if I am going for Hi/Low...they are like $200-250 range...now, what "K" should I go for..? I kinda like the white/blue look and 8000K looks good to me..is that not reasonable? I know I don't like the 10,000K or more for the PURPLE/BLUE look..that is just too much? Any one tried something and has good feedback?

Also....99 Solara FOG LIGHT...I saw plenty of the YELLOW FOG light from the picture forum here but my question is.... Is that DIY version..? I have try to search 'HID" and "Yellow Fog" on this forum and somehow I can find any TOPIC pertaining to the above except giving me pages of pages of topics with other items...I don't think anyone is making the yellow fog for sale (at least not ebay)....any LINK about how to make that work?

Thanks for sharing....

I suggest that you do not go over 6000K for the headlights.
For the yellow fogs, some people tint them with transparent yellow tint paper, some modify them (capsul). I just ordered 3000k, which lights up yellow.

Each of my kits cost 85$ shipped, Although i do not have the hi/low Xenom, which costs more than the regular one. I suggest you get the hi/low

Try different search keywords on this forum and you will find a lot of posts of what you are asking for

i bought them here mydepots.com

I have the 6000K H4 HIDs. They are the hi/low kind. They work great, but the hi beams are halogen. Later I wana upgrade to the TSX Retrofit dual projector. I'm not a fan of yellow fogs, but thats me. I want to get 10,000K kit for my fogs to get that rich blue color. I have the Phillips kit that I bought at www.yourhotcar.com
The only reason I bought it was cause I was purchasing some headlamps and he asked if I wanted a HID kit. It was an open box so I got a $600 kit for $175.

^^ hate to break it to you but tsx are only single xenon projector for the gen 1 lara it needs a bi-xenon

i'd say 5k kit would be the best color from experience, its gives enough light and a lil hint of blue to make you stand out from all the other regular halogens. but thats up to you really.

If u want tru yellow fogs, u can either go the easy way with yellow film over ur lenses or take two other routes.

1) Lexus Fog capsules

Image

2) Lexus Yellow Projectors (from an IS300, etc)

But with this step, ur gonna need to make ur own front lenses (clear)

Well then what are these?

http://customlightz.com/?p=p_83&sName=toyota
click on Solara and then the 2002 Solara.

If it can fit in the gen 1.5 headlamps then why would it not be able to fit in gen 1 headlamps? Sure, its gona take some custom work, but I dont care. I want'em!!!

well i never said they wouldn't fit on a gen 1 im just saying that for a gen one you would need a bi-xenon projector because of the combined lo\hi. as for the pic (i think his sn is astros) he can used the single xenon tsx projector because his gen 1.5 has separate low and high beams.

but hey u can get the tsx if you want, but you will not have a high beam function.

Maybe it's because the 1.5 headlights actually has two separate opening for hi beam and lo beam.

You could probably do it in a gen 1 headlight, but you have to be quite good and patient to get it done right.

You could put in a bi-xenon projector, but you, again, have to be good to be able to wire the hi beam portion.

The kit I have has a seperate wire for the high beams. On H4 bulbs all the wires plug in to one bulb. If I have dual projectors would I be able to plug the high beam wire into the other projector. I dont have my car at the moment its getting the last bit of body work done from my wreck 8mths ago. I'll post some pics of the kit later.

THANKS A MILLION guys....great info.

The funny thing is...I do have a pair of 91 Lexus ES300 yellow projector fog that I totalled 18 years ago....but I don't think I want to do all those work to make it WORK.

What is Bi-xenon? = hi/low?

I saw you guys mentioned 6000k fog...I am sure you guys are talking about HID, my question is...where do you mount the ballast for those 9006? I know I have plenty of rooms to mount the H4 HID ballast around the engine bay but does the bottom of the bumper has some dedicated place to mount the 9006 HID?

Or...the 9006 HID or other HID kits has a very LONG cable between the bulb and the ballast that I can mount the ballast within the engine bay area and extend the cable of the 9006 DOWN to the fog area..?

Thanks..

BTW....any idea where to get that YELLOW CAP..? Seems like it is like a add on cap (H4 type) over the 9006 bulb..? Is that true?

Yeah Id also like to know what and where those caps are from too. If those fit right over the stock bulb, I'm all over it.

Well they do go over the stock bulb, but from inside the fog light.

To install these, u have to take the lense off the fog light which is very simple.

And then JBweld the capsule over the hole/socket where the bulb enters. These are the lexus Capsules. U can find them on ebay from time to time, just search Lexus Capsules, or yellow cap...etc.
