springtech gas shocks?

Postby rewmomi » Thu Nov 27, 2008 12:17 pm

Hey guys I am a college student and dont have alot of money to blow but I have crap stock struts about 150+K on them. I saw that these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... &viewitem= were gas struts too and should perform just as well as tockicos. I dont see anything in the design of these shocks that are different and since there both gas struts they should be the same. What do you guys think?

All struts arent created equal. If u want Tociko type struts, get Tokicos...i love mine!

The other alternative is to go with the KYB's...which are like OEM replacements....

how about the ones I mentioned? I see no sense in geting one with a namebrand on it if theres another one for a cheaper price with same function and quality.

You said it!

"Quality" would be my concern.

no.
tokicos are tried and tested. if u try and save a few bucks now you will pay later. u can get used OEM struts from someone on the forums and just install those if u are worried about price.

On my Gen 4 Camry I have about 70k on my Tokicos and I have not had a problem with them at all. IMHO spend the little bit more and get quality.

BTW for 2 years I ran autocross on those struts, so my suspension has been through hell and back, and they ride just the same as when I bought them brand new.

Side note - If your gonna replace your struts, you might want to replace your strut mount bushings as well(dealership part if I'm not mistaken).

From looking at other topics, they last between 60-80k before they get kinda soft and make squeaking sounds.

I've been hearing those squeaking sounds you described (have 72K miles on the car) so I think my strut mount bushings will need to be replaced (didn't replace these after spring/strut install). Should I do this soon or can this be taken care of later on?

Mine are squeaking and have been for about 7k miles(I do alot of highway driving). I plan on changing them in the spring or when my friends shop has heat, whatever comes first.
