Sea Foam

Sea Foam

Postby Jakecallun20 » Fri Dec 26, 2008 8:28 pm

I read through the tutorial a few times, and my questions are:

Do I HAVE to change the oil after I sea foam? I use Amsoil, and its no where near needing an oil change.

And, do I have to change my plugs after? I just put those in 11k ago and they are just fine.

id say yes, cuz you have all that junk floating around in the oil....best to get rid of it. Plugs....since you just changed them...i'd wait to sea foam it. I ran a lil sea foam through my car, w/o changing the plugs but i knew i was going to be changing them soon along with an oil change....but it's been sitting in a parking lot since october, so thats definitely on the to do list when i come back.

Well, you can SeaFoam in stages or gradually...i.e. dump the gas tank portion now and do the intake vacuum portion later. This way, any effect the loosened deposits will be easier for the engine to deal with.

Do you still have the old spark plugs? If so, change 'em back and finally kill them with a full-blown-extra-performance 3x SeaFoam application  j/k

When you put SeaFoam in the oil, you should put it in 5000 miles before you change the oil, and don't drive hard when you have the SeaFoam in the oil.
I love doin' the SeaFoam for the intake manifold, so much carbon build up in my exhaust, and so much smoke it looks like a small goin' from my exhaust.

In other words, use SeaFoam right after you change the oil, and take it easy for THAT 5000 oil change interval.

I guess people do it differently. I've only had seafoam in the crankcase for not more than 500 miles at the most. If I know that I'm going to be changing oil on a saturday, then I go ahead and pour it down the crankcase on Monday (5 days pvsly). As far as the intake thingie does, ensure you are well ventilated and OUTSIDE the garage IMO. I did it inside the garage my first time and it wasn't fun

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'm gonna change my plugs back, and run the sea foam through when I have 5-600 miles left on my oil. I really appreciate it.

Let us know how it turns out...I might do it to my car before replacing the spark plugs I just bought.

Well, I just did the SeaFoam prior to Oil and Spark Plug replacement @ 70k miles and you should have seen my face at Autozone...

When I took my car for a drive to clear up all the sea foam in engine I noticed the Check Engine Light (CEL). After getting to an Autozone and have it checked, the technician found 8 CODES... EIGHT!

P0300 family P0301, P0302, P0304... (he didn't print all 8 since they are related) and P2238.

After I put in the Royal Purple 10W30 I purchased for $6.99 a quart (:P) and replace the plugs I will reset the ECU to see if they come back on.

I really don't want to scare you guys with this... The car runs fine, is not in any limp mode, smells great and still drew the sight of people (of all the smoke from the seafoam...jeje). HEY MAN, LOOKS LIKE YOU BROKE SOMETHING!!!

Taking into consideration all the codes, I basically choked the engine with seafoam which doesn't burn up as easy as gas, especially when I really tried to drown it to a halt (like the SeaFoam factory video). The engine never died LOL!

I'm pretty sure it will be alright once I reset the ECU. However, I put a halt to the whole G-Sunday-Maintenance trip because I couldn't take the damn oil filter off. Tomorrow I will purchase an oil filter removal tool (they lost the one I had at home), change the air filter, sparks and voila.

Post some more tomorrow.

yea its just the codes form the sea foam, mine came up after i pushed the car harder, it sputtered and throw codes. they say to change your oil anywhere from 50-200miles so don't worry if you driven on it for a little. but i usually do mine about 30 miles into it
