Just Bought A 00 Solara Need Some Help Please

Hi everyone im new to this forum. Just traded in my s10 blazer for a 2000 solara SLE v6. anyways...

Went to the beach this weekend and on the way down i was rolling up my window, i heard a pop and now it wont roll up or down. so i took off the door panel, couldnt find anything wrong so i bought some black duct tape and taped it up so it wouldnt fall and break. now the question is, has anyone else ever had this problem with theirs and what could it be? I would really appreciate some help as it is 32f outside here and it would be nice to have a window that works

^^ sounds about right.

at least, when i had my old honda, every time a window stopped working (after 10 years, 3 of the 4 windows eventually broke down), it was the regulator. check a junk yard and maybe you'll get lucky.

getting it fixed today. the dealership got me a new regualtor and i dropped off the car this morning.. they decided to buy the assembly with the motor and regulator because they say it is cheaper to buy both together but at $400 i would of just got the part i needed. so does this happen often with solaras?

well, i would say that it could be expected after 8 years of being on a car, for the windows to probably go out.

a key factor being how much the previous owner used the windows (like me, being a smoker, use the windows almost everytime i drive my lara). if the prev owner used them a lot, then they're obviously at higher risk of breaking down. but once again, after 8 years, it's really all a question of "when..." and not "if..."

but $400 is a bit steep. sure it'll be guarenteed, but i believe you could have probably found one at a salvage yard for about $125 (at least that's what i remember paying at our scrap yard for the honda regulators individually). install isn't too hard if you have a haynes manual (and are mechanically inclined). but if it's $400 including the labor, then you're not getting off too badly.

so far, my 1999 sle has not burned out a window regulator, yet. and i've been driving her pretty much daily for the past 3 years. i'm just waiting for the "when..." to happen.

My 99 Solara SE V6 has 160k+ miles, bought in 1998 and I've never had a problem with the windows. My left door lock did stop working once while under warranty and then failed again around 100k.

ugh... another, fallin victim to the dealer. 400 is a total rip off.

I'm beginning to think the motor is about to go in mine. At times, it rolls up really slowly.

same thing happened to me 2 weeks i got my 99 solara (used).
the motor was fine, the problem is that the cable that goes into the motor got detached somehow... those windows are pretty heavy. My mechanic said it can be repaired, but the problem will come back, so better get a new one.

200$ for the regulator 100$ work at toyota (but my door was already opened and ready to be installed.)

the regulators are cable type and bieng as i have fixed my motor regulator more than once it is not the easiest job the cable if it slips off is a pain is the arse to get back on the track. the motor actually isnt that hard to change but the regulator sucks
