Hey guys semester is now over I get to install all the things laying around in my garage but I have a dillema my trunk floor is completely caved in since
I had to change my tire I just threw the old one in there since lifting the floor mat with a sub system on it would be hard. So I am custum fabricating it from scratch. I could use all the advice. THanks fellas

Isn't it just a very thick piece of laminated cardboard?

Oh I get ya, maybe put in those hood dampers so it comes up and stays up. Also, instead of fiberglass you can try sheet metal or something more sturdy. Turn it into a hidden compartment to hide all your guns and ammo like in the movies haha, sick.

get a large piece of paper, lay it out in the trunk, take a pencil and outline the trunk. cut the paper, lay it down over the cardboard and cut. Insert your quick access door hinge and done....besides the carpet.

Go to a local sign shop and see if they have a cut off big enough for what you need called Sign-A-Bond or Dura-Bond depending on what they call it, it's the same thing. It's powder coated aluminum on both sides with 3/16's of solid plastic in the center. Really togh stuff and can be cut with a jig saw and sand the edges.
Perfect for what you're trying to do.
A 4x8 sheet costs me $110.00 so no telling what they'll charge you for a cut off, but it's the best route to go.

The stock bottom for the trunk is just a lightweight particle board. My suggestion would be to find someone else with a 'lara, pull theirs out, and outline it on another piece of particle board or MDF (medium-density fiberboard). If worst comes to worst, grab a big sheet of cardboard (try Sam's or some other bulk-items store), trace it there, and use that as a template later on when you get the material.

If you're going to put a sub in the trunk as well, I'd suggest staying away from the aluminum, as it would carry the vibrations like mad. The MDF I mentioned is usually what they use to make enclosures for subwoofers, and it's not terribly expensive. 1/4" MDF should be strong enough, though you might want to consider 1/2" just to be safe - since you're talking about putting a hatch on it. A couple hinges and some wood screws would be enough to put a hatch on it - I'm assuming you're wanting access to the spare tire, though you could also make flaps for the two compartments on the sides (tire jack and such). Use a bit of the spare MDF to make a lip under the hatches, so they'll stay in place (and not close downward).

Sounds like a fun project!
